5. Thick as a Brick..
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 01:46 PM by sendero
.... reads like it was written this year. And JT's "Aqualung" had a perfect bead on today's "money Christians" when there were only a few of them.

"if Jesus saves
well he better save himself
from the gory glory seekers
who use his name in death"

I know it is not popular to think much of Ian Anderson, but I do :)

9. Uh...
... that is a good and yet complex question. I'll give you the very short answer:

When punk came along, it was (in theory) a backlash against the "progressive rock dinosaurs" that came before. To be fair, some prog shows (ELP anyone? :)) were getting to be a little ridiculous. Of course, punk was really the creation of a marketing entrepreneur, the ultimate irony IMHO.

It was kind of unfair to lump JT into the prog dinosaur category, but they were.

I loved the attitude of punk, but who could listen to it? Most of it was mind-numbingly stupid lyrically and simply annoying musically. I think the only punk record I ever owned was "Entertainment" by the Gang of Four, a decidedly different kind of punk :)

10. I was..
... speaking mostly of critics, few who have ever liked ANY progressive rock. Fortunately, most people listen to what they like regardless of critical opinion.

11. Oh, and I do too..
... one of my favorites is one of their later works, "Songs from the Wood". My all time JT favorite is "Passion Play" which almost everyone seemed to hate including some band members :)

Aqualung, Thick as a Brick, Passion Play, Songs from the Wood - all absolute classics :)

12. Thick of course
Tull is still my favorite band.

I like early Genesis enough but I think they went downhill as members left and they got more pop-ular. Culminating in the totally unlistenable "There Must be some misunderstanding" with those awful ooh ooh sounds after every verse.
