Diana crash fears hound Nicole
London Evening Standard
By Richard Sears, Daily Mail, in Sydney
27 January 2005

Nicole Kidman fears she could die in a car chase like Princess Diana as photographers hound her.

The Oscar-winning actress has applied for an injunction to keep two freelance cameramen away from herself and her children.

She will ask a court in Sydney today to issue the order after saying she has been terrified by a number of recent incidents.

Miss Kidman, 37, claims the photographers chased her as she drove to a reunion with her family last weekend. She also told police of her concerns about a listening device found outside her Sydney harbourside home.

1. There are a couple of methods for dealing with paparazzi
Edited on Thu Jan-27-05 11:53 AM by KurtNYC
One is to stand still and let them shoot away. They are outside your office/hotel/etc? Comb your hair, open the door and pose baby. Let them all shoot until pictures of you are as common and worthless as dirt.

Another, and this only works for certain personalities, is to stage an outrageous photo op. No shot of you in the back of a car is going to be worth chasing after if the papers are already covered with pics of you a) kissing someone you are not married to or dating b) sleeping in an oxygen tube with a chimp* or c) flashing a boob. Like I said, it doesn't work for everyone.

* Jackson actually would schedule photo shoots for the National Enquirer to take those tube pictures and the like. It got so much attention and seemed so crazy that for decades it eclipsed what only a few believed Jackson REAL vice was.

4. A baseball cap with that super-reflective tape on it works, too.
All they get is a huge "hot-spot" from their flashes.

9. In my experience, fans can be far worse
Attacking a celebs girlfriend physically, pulling out hair, commiting suicide 'because you ignored them'.

People would pinch Macauley Culkin. Really, these women would pinch him and when would have them arrested they said things like "I didn't believe he was real." Steven Speilberg had a stalker that had bondage gear, etc. Now THAT's scary.

6. 1 question...

serious question, for once...
:D

why do you have to speed up and evade them? If you are worried about crashing, don't go so fast.

10. True, what's the hurry?
Do you REALLY have to be anywhere that badly?

The photographers are the ones "on the clock" too.

Just cruise along with the tinted windows up until they get bored and leave.

Or pull into the parking lot of a firing range and see if they take-off....

8. a better way of avoiding a diana-like fate...
would be to avoid taking lifts from drunken "bodyguards" of your latest squeeze.

11. She might want to double check and make sure they aren't
Scientology shills trying to gain revenge for her separating from Tom Cruise. They've done worse things to other people in the past. One man had to flee to Canada after they had him prosecuted for making terrorist threats after he commented on a usenet newsgroup that he'd like to "launch a Tom Cruise missile" at them. It was an obvious pun on his name, but they actually had the guy prosecuted (and gained a conviction based on altered evidence).

It's not beyond them to do something like that.
