The president of my local community college died last night.
An informal memorial was held today, and the ceramics instructor shared a story about her that no one had known, until today.
Every year, the ceramics instructor took some students on a field trip to a small town in Mexico to study the local pottery. Last spring, the legal department decided to require that the small inn where they would stay to post a bond, for liability purposes. The bond was one million dollars. This was completely impossible for this tiny inn to be able to do.
In order to save the trip, and allow the students to go, the college president PUT UP HER OWN MONEY! Now THAT is walking the talk!
Education certainly lost a great woman last night. Bless you, Gina. You will be missed.
