I shovelled it out MYSELF and I will guard it unto DEATH. You can tell it's mine because I marked it with a:

So go dig out your own space, DAMMIT!

4. No, I'm just remarking that it's a time-honored custom
in certain of the neighborhoods here in Chicago. I saw it all the time in Bucktown. Haven't seen it in Hyde Park, though.

3. YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!
Just came in from shovelling myself out of TWO spaces in this little town I live in, only I live in the "center" where spaces can be VERY tough to get during business hours...

The two cars are next to each other and I'm planning on pulling the one back to take up the two spaces when I need to use the one....

Waaaay too much work to sacrifice for someone "just stopping by" in the neighborhood...

6. Oh man, I would've loved to have seen that!
Sounds like something Tom Palazzolo would've done.

7. This is a Pittsburgh tradition, too!
The thing that always amazed me is that people honor them! No one would dare to remove your lawn chair, and park in your space. Just wouldn't happen!

10. Well, the thing is....
you don't know from which house someone's gonna come running out and start hollering and pounding on the hood of your car! I mean, it's someone on that block, but you can't narrow it down any more than that!

9. Must be a Northern thing- A few years ago I did the same thing
We got a ton of snow here in Va. Everyone was off for a few days and during that time I dug out my car-off street parking behind the apartments. Well the second day back at work I came home and someone had taken the spot my car had been in so I parked halfway down the building (12 apartments). The next morning under my windshield wipers I found an angry note screaming at me for taking "his" parking spot. My response was as follows:

I taped this up over the mailboxes in the lobby/entrance

To whomever put the angry note on my car today,

Oh well dear me excuse me. As you are the ONLY PERSON ON THE ENTIRE EASTERN SEABOARD who had to dig his car out I deeply apologize from the bottom of my heart. I am sure that being the ONLY PERSON ON THE ENTIRE EASTERN SEABOARD who had to dig out your car you are understandably upset. If I had had to go to that much trouble I would probably be upset too should someone park in the spot I had dug out but obviously I didn't as you are the ONLY PERSON ON THE ENTIRE EASTERN SEABOARD who had to. I am in apartment #7 if you want to discuss it further.

There was never a knock on the door.

11. LOL! great note! A big snowfall in NOVA is like an inch or two, right?
I was once married to someone from Loudon Cty and my uncle lived in DC, so I know how an inch of snow cripples the area!
