:wow::wow::wow::wow::wow::wow:

1. 1TB = 1000GB, right? A .5TB drive sounds more regal than a 500GB one.
Odd, that... they're both the same...

3. yes,
but strictly speaking, its supposed to be 1024GB to a TB, but HD companies use 1000:1, makes there drives look bigger, so in reality, a 1.6TB Hard Drive is really 'only' 1.56TB.

(btw the same applies to other units 1024B in a kB; 1024kB in a MB etc...)

5. And 1,000 TB = 1 PetaByte!
Can you imagine how much stuff you could store on a 1PB hard drive? Probably every piece of music ever made! :bounce:

13. Actually...

"
The San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) in the USA has a 1 petabyte hard disk store and a 6 petabyte robotic tape store, both attached to the National Science Foundation's TeraGrid network. (Source: Electronics Weekly, Dec 11, 2002)

The Internet Archive Wayback Machine contains approximately 1 petabyte of data and is currently growing at a rate of 20 terabytes per month. (Source: Internet Archive FAQ (http://www.archive.org/about/faqs.php#9))

NOB Cross Media Facilities (http://www.nob.nl/index.cfm?cfid=33000632&cftoken=2193809&ln=en#) in the Netherlands employs a 1.5 Petabyte storage network for the storage of all old and new public television and radio content in digital format. Within the next year, most Dutch public television content will be pulled directly out of this database during broadcast.

Wikipedia has all sorts of good stuff :)

I have three systems networked with a total of about 600 Gig. What a drive. The digital pack rats, like me, will get in line.

20. That's where having two cache modules comes in handy!
Along with that big hard drive, you've got to have two cache modules to ensure everything remains fresh and quick to get! :evilgrin:
