Poll question: Vote for the GREATEST Sandwich

Vote early and often. If you have a favorite place that makes the best tell us about where it is and what makes it best.

1. Uh, the voting here isn't like the great City of Chicago.
i.e., vote early and vote often. Software only allowed me one vote for a lobster roll with beer.

5. Huh, that saying originated in Chicago,
where even the dead can vote early and often. True story -- it took me 5 years to get my father stricken from the voter rolls -- even after he had died. I considered getting someone to go vote in his place.

2. As a young man dating in high school...............
my girlfriends parents belonged to the Lone Palm Country Club in Lakeland, Florida. It was made with oversized pumpernikel bread, super thin sliced corned beef, russian dressing and jarlsberg swiss cheese! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm. To die for! Luckily I left her, but still got the recipe that we use to this day!

25. Why is it that NYC is the only place to get decent pastrami?
It seems like everywhere else, people want to cut the fat and you wind up with shoe leather.

6. A Primanti Bros. fry sandwich with the works and a Mello Yello.
Yeah, I've been to Pittsburgh. Primanti Bros. (DDDRRROOOLLLL....) Heaven for your taste buds, hell for your arteries. Those Pastrami sandwiches with french fries in them, dripping with sauerkraut and mayo for me, please. Ohhhhhhhh yeah..... And the next time I go to Pittsburgh, the first thing I'm doing is heading over to Primanti Bros. for some o' dat.

Now you got me thinking about this. I'm gonna go make a sandwich now.:-)

10. Runs a close second.
Gotta skip the cukes, though: the gas I have after eating fresh cucumber makes a fine WMD.

I add miracle whip, lettuce and tomato, and use a Kaiser or onion roll, but any breadlike substance will do in a pinch.

9. A Ruben and a Beer...and a clothespin for YOUR nose.
I would be impossible to be near for the next 24-36 hours, but turn it down? SURELY you jest (and don't call me Shirely!)

Had them all over the country, and the best is gone forever! RIP CITY DELI II, Port Huron Michigan, maker of the best Ruben sandwich in the known universe, and unduplicateable as the owner made his own kraut.

21. Clearly, these pollsters are not of the initiated...
whether "hot roast beef with mayonnaise and gravy only" or fried seafood, a po'boy is the veritable definition of "greatest sandwich"

An Aside: one Mardi Gras, a friend and I dressed up as the bottom bread and the top bread of a po'boy...accosting and spontaneously embracing passers-by to be the "meat-in-the-middle"...tasty po'boys were made that day...

Ruins the flavor, doesn't blend well with mayo. Maybe Sprite or iced tea.

24. Shrimp Po Boy or muffaletta
There was this place in Little Five Points called the Baker's cafe. They made an incredible filling muffaletta.

I think they are gone now though. Sigh.

27. The Cubano
Roast pork, Ham, Cheese, a slice of pickle, and a splash of garlic sauce on a hero bread which is then toasted in a press.

Too bad I don't eat pork or cheese anymore. A pickle sandwich with garlic sauce just doesn't cut it.

32. I voted "other" - all your sandwiches are American!
Nobody eats any of that stuff over here.

Smoked Ham, Caledonian Mature Cheddar, tomatoes, cucumber and Branstons Pickle on wholemeal bread gets my vote, and not just because it's what I'm having for tea tonight.
