Mac OSX experts. Need tech help
The tech guy recently upgraded my old G4 to OSX (Panther). After a couple weeks of hell, it's fineally running smoothly. My question is, I tried to install Adobe GoLive and it got almost all the way done but then I got an error message that said Error creating folder and Access denial error. When I quit another box comes up that reads: You do not have enough access priveleges for this installation. Any idea what the problem is? It's GoLive6.0 and I have some other Adobe CS software on my computer. Any help would be appreciated.

1. My initial (non-expert, but strong user) opinion is...
that the user you were logged in as while doing the install is not an "administrator"

3. I asked the tech guy
If I should try another user name and password and he gave me his. But the dialog box shook when I entered that (which I assume means it is incorrect). I also did the repair permissions thing which didn't seem to help.

2. to bif
Hi bif,

I just installed OS X Panther on my Mac G4 Sunday and it went fine. I had the Adobe suite on 9.1, so it's still in the Classic 9 folder and won't work properly.

I called Adobe and they said I could buy a Panther-compatible upgrade of the entire suite for $749 (or standard for $549). That was a bit steep for me, so I opted just to upgrade Photoshop for $189 (including tax and shipping).

You'll have to upgrade.

I also called DataViz and they're sending MacLink Plus Deluxe 15 and Allume's Stuffit for $39 each. It's worth every penny. The MacLink Plus translation program is fantastic.

I have a Microtek ScanMaker 5700 and the upgrades for Panther are free downloads from the microtek.usa.com site.

I love Safari, but I'm also going to install Firefox for Panther because there are certain websites that Safari won't read.

I love Panther and Safari, and the email program called Microsoft Entourage. So far, so good.

Sue

4. GoLive 6.o is supposed to be compatible with OSX
But it came out before Panther. (And it's a friends copy so I can't call Adobe for help).

5. Have you been to the Adobe website?
They have tech forums related to each product and online help. Might give it a try. You can sign on as a guest. I know that I've had to go back in get downloadable patches to software like my printer to allow it to work on my Mac running Panther. Might give it a try.

8. It works fine on Panther. . .You need administrator priveledges.
I think you are trying to install with a user name that doesn't have administrator priveledges.

My guess is that the person who set it up for you FORGOT to check the box that said "this user can administer this computer" when he set up your name and password.

So therefore you can't install the software.

Call the guy again who helped you set up the computer.

He needs to make sure that the login you have has administrator priveledges. . .this is his issue. . .

10. That's wierd
I clicked on an old GoLive 5.0 tryout install icon and it installed just fine. Would I be allowed to do that if I didn't have aministrator priveledges?

11. 5 is mac os 9 only - so it was installing in classic. . .which is a little
more "loosy goosy" about who can install (i.e. screw up) on the computer.

9. See my post #8 - Your friend forgot to check a box that allows
you to install software when he set up your name and password.

7. I am using Go Live CS
with X. I think I had 6 running before.
It sounds like parts of the machine were locked off, you need full privlages. If the box shook you off, you need the correct password
