Good books, good music, good movies?
If forced to make a holiday gift list, what books, CDs, and movies would yours include?

1. Thomas Paine " The Age of Reason "
That's one of the few things I am buying myself for Christmas . I have heard its a great book and it could say a lot about the direction the country is going at the moment ... even if it was written nearly a century or so ago .

3. He wrote it in 1794--a bit more than "nearly a century or so ago"
And the text is available online: www.ushistory.org/paine/reason/index.htm

4. A complete, new set of Dickens' books.
I have all of them in various conditions. I would like a new complete set.

Films? Maybe some of Billy Wilder's films on DVD. Presumably, they have been transferred to DVD now.

5. Ah... holiday lists!
Books:

Some of my favorites that I read in the last year or two (in no particular order):

1. The Curious Incident of the Dog at Night-Time
2. Middlesex
3. Anna Karenina

I'm giving a friend a copy of Handel's Messiah. It's my favorite Christmas contemplative classical piece.

Movies... I'm giving my brother a few. He likes comedies, so I'm giving him a bunch of silly movies:

1. Anchorman
2. Elf
3. Mean Girls
4. Dodgeball
5. Saved!

(Our Christmas tradition is to sit down and watch bad comedies for half the day. It's kind of fun! Especially after watching A Christmas Story five times on TNT or TBS...)
