Platinum Spark PLugs Vs Normal "Copper"? Spark PLugs
Which is better? I've heard that although, platinum plugs will last longer (50K), they sometimes result in less power. Is this true? Auto experts please help.

1. What kind of car do you have?
I have to ask you this question because platinum plugs are not for every car.

The advantages to platinums is that they burn cleaner and last twice as long as conventional copper plugs. But if you have a tiny car, let's say a Metro or an old Toyota Tercel, then the copper will burn better.

"then the copper will burn better"

before you say "the platinum will not give you any benefit"....

3. check your owners manual.
most cars don't need new plugs for 75-100 miles.

late model cars are tuned to the nth degree, and the best mechanic i ever met said replacing plugs before the specs. call for it is a waste of time and money.

5. when a mech turns down a chance to make $$$, i gotta believe him!
Edited on Mon Jul-14-03 02:51 PM by KG
this was at about 35k miles. i said i might just do it myself, and put platinums in, he said reg. replacement were good enuff. (this was a 2000 escort zx2 i owned at the time.)

never bothered to do it, traded in the p.o.s. at about 60k after replacing the same belt tensioning pulley 3 times.

but since you're close to the 75k mark, your ride might be ready for some new plugs.
