3. see the "hole in the sky"
Quite impressive. You wont find it mentioned in the tourist guides, but the locals know where to see it. Oh yeah, and if you're going to visit the Hana area (enchanting) dont forget the mosquito repellant!

4. Make the drive to Hana....
A hold-your-tummy ride, but well worth it for the scenery. And the waterfalls!

10. LOL - it is not that bad! - but taking it violates rental car agreement!
And everyone does indeed violate that agreement!

The waterfall swimming is neat - but Maui is just a paradise in so many ways.

Enjoy!

17. That is an actual picture of a section
of the Road to Hana.
My friend drove up and I drove all the way back. We saw a stretch limo on that road. No idea how it got as far as it did, but it could not make one of the turns.

but almost no traffic - and less fear than on the one lane roads of Northern Europe (I still do not understand why the Scots do not have a very high motor car death rate!)

it's not racist unless said right after you do something really stupid, when prefaced by f-ing, as in getting dragged gasping out of huge surf. F-ing haole.
Otherwise it's just a fact, we all are what we are.
I thought everybody in the country was japanese, chinese, filipino or Hawaiian but me and my family till I went to the mainland for the first time at age 7. Wow, get plenty haoles over there!
:)

7. Oh Yes , you must take a trip out to molikini
It's an Island preserve right off the coast .
Find the Boat called "The Silent Lady" It's a Schooner
which on the way back the put up the sails and
the Whales get closer because the engines are off .

The 7 sacred pools are great too but it's a long trip
on the road Hana so staying one night or 2 in Hana is
optimal . If you are rustic there is a State Park over
there too and it'll save you some $$

Have fun , Kauai is my Favorite Island but Maui
comes in second because it has the best of both
Nature and Nightlife IMHO .

8. go surfing
take a lesson if you've never done it before...you'll have a lot of fun

also, there is a submarine tour that is pretty interesting...much better than a glass bottom boat, IMO...you get to see some awesome marine life all the way down there.

and listen to Hawaiian music. It's so pretty that side! There used to be a great place to stay there but Oprah bought it, broke my heart.

20. Maui is pretty cool

If you have never been there then you will love it, but it has been completely Califorinicated. There are some real gems there though. Go to Haleakala Nat'l Park and hike down into the "crater"(not really a crater but everyone calls it one) check out the silverswords up there. Go to Hana it is pretty sweet, go swimming in the pools. Check out the Maui Jinsha Mission in Wailuku.

21. Yes if your going near the Lahaina area
make reservations and go to the Old Lahaina Luau. It's great! Also go to Sansei Seafood Restaurant and Sushi bar, get the butterfish appetizer and try the apple pastry thing for dessert...to die for! (I would never tell people what to get but let me just say I had it two years ago and I still think about it)
Check out Maui tacos and Bubba Gump's Shrimp.

Honolua Bay is great for snorkeling. If you want to see Sea Turtles you have to snorkel to the edge of the bay but you'll definitely see them.
Kapalua Bay is also great for snorkeling and has a great beach.

The Maui Ocean center is nice.

Hana is nice but it's an all day trip and if your prone to car sickness be prepared. There are waterfalls and the seven pools.

There is a ferry ride that you can take over to Lanai for the day if you want.

There is some shopping on Front Street in Lahaina and restaurants.

Here's the address for Sansei (If you ask around people will tell you how to get there.)
115 Bay Drive # 115
Kapalua, Maui , HI 96761

Have Fun!!

23. oh it's wonderful. watch the whales, go up to the crater,
drive to Hana and you will see the most exquisite scenery on that drive (beautiful isolated beaches, magnificent settings, waterfalls, etc), buy some protea, watch those incredible sunsets, etc.

One time I saw a humpback whale flip out of the water 4 times in a row very close to Lahaina when I was on a whalewatching boat

been there 4 or 5 times.

26. Hubby and I honeymooned in Wailea and Hana
Hana is definitely worth the drive.

Paia is a fun little hippie town - Paia Fish market has great fish burgers. For a nice meal, try Mama's Fish House near Paia. It's a tad pricey but it's right on the beach with great views!
