I see things and people in terms of race. It's not something I'm proud of, but as a white person raised by fairly racist parents, it's something I have to live with and work against constantly.

Everybody sees thingsin terms of race.

If white people on here tell you that they don't notice that a black person is black when they see them, they're lying. It's just part of culture.

are completely ignorant of economics and would be well suited taking Econ 101 as well as Econ 102-Macro and Micro.

I find that a lot of the arguments against free trade are race-based in nature, and also grounded in envy.

And that's what this is about. Free trade. Mexicans should be able to cross our border freely and work in our companies. They should also be able to come for any other reason. Our economy would be a lot better off.

A liberal who opposes this is a complete hypocrite.

I don't think it's our job to rebuild Mexico. That's their job.

I'd rather spend that money on the VA.

It's massively underfunded, and it's disgusting that we always have more money for farming and health care expenditures when we aren't even taking care of our veterans.

Our veterans didn't say hold on, we're busy, we'll eventually get to you, when they served in our wars. They just went and did their job.

As it is some have to wait months or even years for care.

That's fucking disgusting.

Homeless vets need housing subsidies and some need psychiatric treatment.

The VA budget right now is 50 billion or so a year. I've talked to insiders at the VA who say that to really take care of every single veteran they would need their budget quadrupled to 200 billion.

We can take a large chunk out of Dept of Defense and get the rest of it from trimming other programs, including eliminating the DEA and the Border Control.

But my positions won't be popular anyway.

But as a white person, I have to say that I stop noticing or thinking about race with some people I have gotten to know, and with some very visible people.

I had a teaching mentor that I got to know well. She wore two hearing aids and had had a kidney transplant. I noticed that more than her blackness. I could not believe that she could overcome all that and still be such a good teacher. It takes energy to teach.

And I don't usually think about Oprah Winfrey being black. She is a visible female celebrity.

And Obama is another good example. When I look at him, I see a future President, a uniter. I think he is probably the best example. White people all over this state notice his race and dismiss it. They see hope in him.

That has happened with students I have had, too. Of course I notice that students are Asian, African American, Hispanic, Caucasian. It ceases to mean anything unless some idiot makes a fuss about it. One year, a guy took his kid out of school because the teacher was Jewish. Go figure.
