The Number OF The Beast
“Woe to you O earth and sea, for the Devil sends the Beast with wrath, because he knows the time is short.
Let him who hath understanding reckon the Number of the Beast, for it is a human number.
Its number is six hundred and sixty six.”

I left alone my mind was blank
I needed time to get the memories from my mind

What did I see can I believe that what I saw
that night was real and not just fantasy

Just what I saw in my old dreams were they
reflections of my warped mind staring back at me

Cos in my dreams it's always there the evil face that twists my mind
and brings me to despair

The night was black was no use holding back
Cos I just had to see was someone watching me
In the mist dark figures move and twist
was all this for real or some kind of hell
666 the Number of the Beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and sacred chants were praised
as they start to cry hands held to the sky
In the night the fires burning bright
the ritual has begun Satan's work is done
666 the Number of the Beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on I must inform the law
Can this still be real or some crazy dream
but I feel drawn towards the evil chanting hordes
they seem to mesmerise me...can't avoid their eyes
666 the Number of the Beast
666 the one for you and me

I'm coming back I will return
And I'll possess your body and I'll make you burn
I have the fire I have the force
I have the power to make my evil take its course

12. What year was "Powerslave" out?
I stopped buying Maiden albums with the "Live in Japan" EP.
Note to the young: an EP was a 12" plastic disc with (usually) four to six songs that cost about half of a regular album, but rarely has any bad songs. We played them on a record player, or stereo...google it if you have to.

I think I was into the Blues pretty heavy by then. Not just Albert King and Robert Johnson, but also Savoy Brown and Frampton's Camel.
How about bands like Fist and Saxxon, or Girlschool...or Krokus! Aren't most of these guys (and girls) dead now? How could I forget Motorhead? SAw them at cbgb's...my ears bled for a month!

9. Bruce Dickenson writes lyrics about some of the most unusual subjects...
...in any music anywhere.

'Conan the Librarian', indeed.

:)

10. Gee, I thought "Die with your boots on" and...
"Run to the hills" were better songs, and "Killers" has always been my favorite Maiden album. Good picture of Eddie on the cover of this one though. Your post is the best use of lyrics from a band which toured extensively with Judas Priest I think I have ever seen. Thoughts on more current bands like Ant-Flag or Bad Religion?

14. This Country needs a Metal revival
not the 80's hair schlock but the intelligent and EVIL Metal like Maiden, Priest & Sabbath from Liverpool.

I remember buying Number Of The Beast when I was 12 thinking "oh this looks so Evil & scary I HAVE to have it!"

We need a wall of fist pumping sound to rally the youth against the so-called "Christian Morality". Metallica, Anthrax, and Megadeath have done some good social causes through their music.

I love metal.

And Iron Maiden - damn!

666-Powerslave-FearoftheDark- Trooper-Aces High--2 Minutes to Midnight-Wasted Years-Running Free-Revalations-Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner-Run to the Hills, what can you say. What a fucking band!

I want a speed-metal revival too. Speed metal is its own beast.
