Edited on Sun Nov-07-04 12:29 AM by The Nation
Honestly, what is the potential harm in letting people know if you're male or female?

1. probably because they don't want to be stereotyped to that gender?
or they don't see themselves bound by the binary genders?

3. some of us come from very narrow minded red state towns
and we don't want them to harass us ...on the internet. Hard to explain. Why does it really matter what gender a voice is?

10. Bingo...
Yep, this is the reason for me.

Regular DUers know my gender--but anyone doing a quick search would have to put two and two together.

24. thats always nice too
but the look and quick retreat is good too, now if you're with a girl you know and have a closet crush on her, just stare at her and admire her beauty but dont say oh my god "name here" you are so beautiful, just smile at her and have small talk.

19. I'm transgender as well
and don't, or can't categorize myself as one or the other, has to be both. That's why I don't check the box, cuz it doesn't fit really.

17. What's the harm in not declaring a gender?
Why does it matter?

To me, the fact that it doesn't matter is actually the reason why I chose undeclared.

18. Lotsa reasons
First off, there's no checkbox for intersexed or transgender, or genderfucker for that matter... Secondly, chicks get hassled; the fewer people who know you're a chick, the lower the likelihood of hassle.

I guess some just haven't discovered their gender yet.

I've often wondered why someone would say undeclared It makes no sense to me.

31. By stating your gender, you give freepers more info to...
...find out who you are, and potentially harass you.
