I tried to eat a humble lunch. I really did. I just couldn't do it.
In the interest of frugality and keeping my dollars away from georgie fuck-up's economy as much as possible, I busted out an old box of Mac and Cheese from the deepest recesses of my pantry. I remember that shit was good.

Then I found two hot dogs Mr. had purchased that were in the fridge. They said November 29, so I figure, that's ok.

Blech. You can't mess that up can you? The mac and cheese is blechy, the hot dogs I don't even want to describe. I ended up eating the mac and cheese and leaving the hot dog slices. I will feed them to my dog, they had a weird aftertaste that doesn't seem natural.

Then I ate some leftover Halloween candy.

I'm gonna have to remember how to do this humble eating again, I got away from it for a while, but food prices are just too high. And $4.50 a pop for a Venti Pumpkin Spice Latte is going to put me in the poor house, sure.

Sigh. Ramen noodles? I remember those....

9. Mmmm
two bowls of rice. Sure you aren't eating a bit extravagantly over there? LOL!

Seriously though, I do love a hot bowl of rice with just a touch of butter and salt. Yummy!

4. I KNOW!

I can't even buy shit at Whole Foods anymore. More like Whole Paycheck by the time I get out of there.

So it's back to non-organic nasty pesticide sprayed produce. Because it's cheaper.

Ug.

One thing I will NOT stop buying and that is organic milk....I know WAY too much about what is in regular milk to EVER drink that nasty shit again. That goes for other dairy products, too, only organic. I'll save money elsewhere to buy organic dairy.

Edit: I've never seen lemon-chili ramen noodles. PROBABLY BECAUSE I LIVE IN A FUCKING RED STATE AND WE CAN'T HAVE DECENT SHIT HERE, NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Sorry. I'm still a bit bitter.

3. Yeah, fun :)
It is hard to get away from, but once you do it, I think you will be happy with the money you are saving, and the crap you avoid putting in your body. There are websites that can help you eat well and cheap, and there are definitely DUers who can help!

Just cutting fast food and pre-made coffee can easily save you $200-300/month, if you usually have it every day!

5. It costs in time, but its worth it
Flour is still cheap
yeast isn't too bad, especially in bulk.

Home made bread with a couple slices of cheap luncheon meat, lightly browned to get some of the fat out of the slice and into the pan.

If you have an ok fridge I can (try to) explain how to 'retard' the dough and have it ready about when you are.

6. Well at least the halloween candy sounds good.......
When I first quit my paying job to stay home with the small people, I got really good at frugality. I used to make double meals and freeze the leftovers. No gym membership. No eating out. It really was fine.

I tried to talk my husband into canceling cable this morning. He seemed unimpressed with my reasoning.

8. Good luck on that.
I tried to talk Mr. into getting rid of the satellite dish. But we keep our money and bills separate and that is one of his bills, so he pays it. Since he pays it he said "hell no."

7. Well
I put the hot dog slices on a little plate and gave them to my dog.

She went to town. I'm not even sure she fucking CHEWED them, just sucked them in and swallowed it all WHOLE.

12. There are better things than Mac n Cheese
I think I am the queen of frugality. Last year, I thought about writing an article about "How to Survive Another Four Years of the Bush Administration". I decided against doing that, because I was quite sure of a Kerry win.

I'm just not so sure how well something like that would go over. People are either into living on less or aren't. Some people (not you, Moonbeam, the general "you") do not want to sacrifice.

I make a mean Rosemary Focaccia bread, and it only costs me 12 cents a loaf. It goes really well with homemade turkey/black bean chili. Or homemade split pea soup.

14. Mmmmm....... sounds really good.
The turkey/black bean recipe sounds delicious. I have some left over turkey that could go to good use.
