Anyone else home from work/school sick?
I know we don't need another downer thread, but I curiously found myself waking up at 9:30 this morning, when I was supposed to wake up 3 and a half hours ago. Then my friend told me everything, and I guess I can see why my parents let me stay - if at school I wouldn't be able to face the stupid assholes or even function. Anyone home?

2. Yup
I planned it this way. Either I was going to be hung over from celebrating or in deep depression. I hope to hell I can manage to go back to work tomorrow. At least, there aren't too many freepers where I work.

8. I hope I can manage to go back this week
cause I do have several..."friends" that are Republicans and probably can't wait to taunt me. But on Friday I'm a going to see a good friend who happens to be a Republican whom I haven't seen in a few months...I don't know how I'll face him. I mean, I didn't taunt him with Reagan's death, I hope he can extend me the same courtesy.

3. I overslept, but went into law school anyway, I missed my first class
I can't really function anyway, so I'm not really doing anything good by being here.

7. I took a half day...
..got my students going in the morning, and since PE and lunch take up most of our afternoon, came home to sleep. But I can't. I was up all last night.

The hardest part for me was right before I left school. I just heard through DU that Kerry conceded and told my students as we were following the election closely. Half my class clapped and that was hard for me. They're great kids.

11. Yeah
I only got like two hours of sleep. I just didn't feel like school this morning. I didn't want to stare into the eyes of conservative classmates knowing that my candidate had failed. Eyes would have been on me all day long. I couldn't deal with it.

13. I can totally relate
There are four of them who in my Latin class love to taunt me, and they're younger! An asshole kid sits next to me in band, and there are too many assholes in marching band. And Trig...god I would've snapped. And then, even my friends saying "Oh I'm so sorry I know how much you cared..." or start saying anything to that affect...I wouldn't be able to take it.

12. Yup.
I'd asked for this time off months ago. I figured I'd either be celebrating or too depressed to function. Sigh.

14. Does crushing depression and grief count as "sick"?
Then, yes, I am home sick.

16. Yes it does
I automatically put "sick" because on top of being "holy fuck" depressed, I have an ear infection, sinus infection, a bad cough, and a sore throat. I also feel like throwing up every few minutes and my stomach is very uneasy. But those two latter are from depressing I'm sure.

15. I am.
I was supposed to be taking a test right now, but I'm sick because people in this country ARE dumber than I thought.

Sigh.

18. I'm at work, thinking of leaving.
I told my boss this morning that I wasn't feeling at all well today and might not last the whole day. He didn't ask what was wrong. I think he knew.

Thank God for my stepkids. I have to be brave for their sakes. If not for them, I would be having a total meltdown right now.

19. I couldn't face work this morning...
...last night around eleven I couldn't stand it any longer and took a walk up to the bar at the corner to hang out and try to get away from the election. There were a lot of others there hoping Cuyahoga county would pull a miracle and the Kerry margin would widen.

Long story short... waaaaay too much to drink

20. Have a government class to teach tonight...
and a book review for a journal that is due on Monday. I am so tired and miserable that I doubt whether I can make it through today or this week. To make things worse, my neighbor, a Hispanic (I am black), is a Repuke who is married to a white lady. Unlike his wife who hardly says hello, the guy has been very friendly and courteous toward me. On a few occasions we have actually conversed about our kids. But I feel he is going to be gloating today and probably checking to see if I will remove the Kerry-Edwards sign on my car and front lawn. I was hoping to do that to him. Oh, today really sucks.

I live in the most Republican county in the Dallas Forth Worth area and wasn't expecting anything other than miracles for our local Democratic candidates. But I had hoped that, nationally, Kerry would pull it out, especially with the economy doing badly for many people (e.g., several previously-sold new homes in my subdivision are now up for sale or rent).

Like many DU'ers, I am well-educated and have a relatively safe and moderately-paying job, but I have two boys (age 18 and 17) whom I don't want to see get drafted to fight a war that I believe was based on a pack of lies. I also worry about their future as racial minorities in this country. But my biggest fear is that my older son, who cast his first vote ever and really did a lot of volunteer work at our local Democratic heaquarters, may now feel that his efforts had been in vain.

How do I survive this week? No, how do we get through these next four years of Republican fascism?
