Red Sox fans - I remember the Patriots vs. Raiders, 2002
It was the snow bowl in the Divisional playoffs 2001. The Raiders were ahead by three at Foxboro Stadium late in the 4th quarter.

Tom Brady goes back to throw and he is hit from behind by Charles Woodson and loses the ball. The Raiders recover, less than 2 minutes from victory, with no Pats time outs.
The Patriots were dead. I turned off the game, becuase I was convinced they had lost. A couple minutes later, I turned it back on and found they had used the infamous "tuck rule" to rule the "fumble" a forward pass, giving the ball back to the patriots.

Then Brady drives the Pats into field goal range and Adam Vinatieri hits a low line drive 45-yard field goal to send the game into overtime, where he again kicks a field goal to win the game.

The Patriots had come back from the dead to win the Super Bowl that year.

The Red Sox were dead in the 9th inning last night, down 4-3 against the best closer in baseball, against the most talented team in baseball, but then they came back to life.

Have faith.

1. Yeah,
But the Patriots cheated as the Tuck rule did not apply in that case. Brady already made contact with his other arm (part of his body). Hopefully, the Red Sox can win without cheating; I'm sure they don't want a tainted * next to their championship like the Patriots.

3. The Pats didn't cheat . The referee ruled the letter of the rule
and that made it legal.

5. In every game there are dozens of controversial calls.......
I never make excuses that the other team won because of a disputed play.

You have to have overwhelming evidence to overrule the decision of the refs on the field. There was no evidence to overturn the fumble.

Still haven't gotten over the fact that 2002 was a very Brady Christmas, have you? If I recall, you reached in 2003 only to get stomped by Tampa Bay!

Go Patriots!

7. Cheated? You must be a Raider fan.
Because everyone else in the world said the rule was applied properly. Buh-bye now!

10. That's funny - I didn't realize polls overruled experts and NFL execs.

11. Upon further review...
the refs have decided polls are meaningless and they know the rules better than anyone. :)

13. Fine by me.
Asterisk or not, Bush was unfortunately still President, and we're still Super Bowl champs. Of course, there's no asterisk on the 2004 SB, nor will there be on the 2005.

14. It's always good to have faith on your team
But it's a lot easier to come back in football.

I hope the Sox make it a series.
Last night was the first game, they actually decided to show up for.
