Did Christopher Reeve die?
A friend said she just heard that, but I haven't yet seen confirmation. Very very sad if true.

6. Systemic infection (bedsores)
Edited on Wed Oct-13-04 03:05 AM by plastic_turkeys
Christopher Reeve lived for nine years after the horse riding accident that left him confined to a wheelchair. His death from a severe infection, however, demonstrates that paralyzed people often face challenges far greater than the inability to walk, according to The New York Times.

Reeve died Sunday from an infection of what doctors call a "pressure wound" -- in layman's terms, a bedsore. Infected bedsores are among the most common complications for people who are paralyzed, the newspaper said.

Infections of all types are the number one cause of death among people paralyzed from the waist down, the Infectious Disease Society of America told the Times. And Reeve's death at age 52 highlighted just how dangerous they can be, even though he had the resources to get the best medical care.

People who can't move for themselves often require 24-hour care, because they must be shifted and turned regularly to prevent bedsores that could easily become infected. Patients who can't breathe on their own have the added worry of lung infections, the newspaper reported.

7. Thank you for this story. I had no idea bed sores or an infection
could become so serious. He worked so hard and helped so many.

8. Deader than Scott Stap's career.
And that's pretty dead.

On a serious note: Rest in peace, Superman. Your bravery will not be forgotten.

14. Former front man of immensely shitty band, Creed
His name (and Creed in general) is kind of a punch line in rock circles. The band basically dumped him and then formed a new band without him.
