anyone else here listen to Robyn Hitchcock?
I'm really digging his new album, "Spooked." But where I live finding other fans, let alone anyone who's even heard of the man is next to impossible.

1. I am
Used to do tape exchanges of him and Tom Waits back in the day - introduced to both by the same friend... Hitchcock is a serious talent. Deserves his accolades.

2. Soft Boys, yes. Hitchcock solo, no.
The Soft Boys, IMO, were THEE underrated band of the late 70's/ early 80's. Once Hitchcock went solo, he was free to indulge his Syd Barrett fixation without interference from competing egos. I am of the mind that his muse deserted him after "Black Snake Diamond Role."

And shame on him for also indulging in the worst tendencies of 80's "big sound" production.

3. I'm familiar with some of his stuff.
I like it, though I think the only album we own of his is 'Perspex Island' (not sure why, either, since nothing on it was a modern rock radio favorite). I remember seeing Raymond Chandler Evening on 120 Minutes on MTV way back in 'the day.' I've heard a lot of the 'alternative FM' radio singles -- Balloon Man, Viva Seatac, My Favorite Buildings and I do kind of like them.

He's interesting in interviews, I know that -- I've probably read interviews with him more than I've heard his music (though the modern rock station around here that's now Internet-only used to play Viva Seatac a lot). He's fascinating. Not as nutty as Julian Cope, but still pretty bright and a hell of an interview.

4. I love him, both with the Soft Boys and solo
I saw him live a few years ago, and he was so cool. He came out and talked to people in the lobby afterward. Probably the most unpretentious "famous" person I've ever met.

5. Loved the Soft Boys.
I like some of his early solo stuff, too. I saw him solo/acoustic once, years ago; it was a pretty good show. Still, pick up Underwater Moonlight. You won't be disappointed.

9. oh yes
mainly the older stuff, Soft Boys and solo and with the Egyptians up to around "Globe of Frogs", then I kind of lost interest...
I love the Fegmania album (especially "The Man With the Lightbulb Head") and the acoustic album that preceeded it, title escapes me right now but it had "I Often Dream of Trains" and "Uncorrected Personality Traits" on it...

I saw him live twice, with the Egyptians each time. I admit I haven't heard any of the newer stuff he's done...

12. saw him play a show with jon brion
back in april and interestingly enough him and jon were quite vocal in their distaste for bush, even to the point of devoting an entire song to it :>
