...and my opinion remains unchanged. Yes, I'm happy that the polls say otherwise, but that was my initial impression and I haven't seen anything that would change my mind.

(please note, I said that they both made a good showing, but I think Cheney edged Edwards out..it's a "win", but by a slim margin)

A ball must pass over the plate between the "knees and the numbers" to constitute a strike. There are no such rules for a "debate" such as this.

As there are no set parameters for a "win" in a debate (at least a debate like we had last night), opinion is all we can offer. Your comparison simply doesn't apply.

The person who won the debate is the person that most people think won the debate.

That would be Edwards. Maybe Cheney DID do better than Edwards, but that makes no difference. Regardless of how you feel, the winner is chosen by a plurality.

You're just not making sense. I've admitted (happily) that the polls differ, but I'm still entitled to an opinion and that opinion can't be wrong. An opinion isn't a statement of fact, it's a personal assessment.

Who won the debate is decided by your opinion; It's decided by a plurality. Your opinion may be that the moon is made of green cheese, and even though you are wrong, you still have the right to hold that opinion.

WRT to the "validity" of your opinion, I dont have a clue as to how an opinion can be "valid" or "invalid". I know that someone can hold an opinion that is just flat-out "wrong" (see above opinion concerning the composition of the moon) but I don't know if that's what you mean by "valid".

Your opinion is that "Cheney did better than Edwards". The answer to the question "Who won?" is "Whomever most people thought won"
