Any SMiLe-o-philes here?
On the 28th of this month, Brian Wilson is releasing the legendary SMiLE album that he began with the Beach Boys 37 years ago but never finished. He's re-recorded the material with his new band and the reviewers say it's GREAT.

Man, I cannot wait.

1. I've been waiting for this . . .
since I first heard about it almost a year ago . . . this is a true rock & roll historical event, and I'll be placing my order soon . . .

2. I've been debating whether to order it online
or buy it at someplace here in town. I think I'm gonna buy it here. I'll tell you what, though, it's been in the top twenty at Amazon for weeks. Seems like it's bound to chart with all of the pre-release sales.

Yes, I'm giddy.

3. Should be interesting to hear.
The fragments I've heard (on the Good Vibrations box set, for instance) are beautiful.

4. Yes, I had a bootleg cassette of the original "Smile" album
about 20 years ago, Pieced together from the tapes. The extended Heroes and Villains with the Hawaiian stuff, Wind chimes, Old Master Painter/You are My Sunshine are some of the most unique strange pieces of music ever composed.
I have got to hear this remake.

8. Love and mercy that's what we need tonight
so love and mercy to you and your friends tonight.

Yes, a lovely, necessary song. I'm big on "This Whole World," too. But my absolute faves are "Don't Worry, Baby," and "I Just Wasn't Made for These Times."

15. Yes, but... it's not Brian Wilson's SMiLE, I don't think
Seems to me more like the demos and some seventies arrangements Brian dismissed earlier set up and recorded by the Wondermints. I really hope it is good, but I think it will be a disappointment.

16. The reviews have been spectacular
The things I've read suggest that it's pretty much Brian and VDP's work, with some help from his musical director in the Wondermints. It won't be the record we would have had in 1967, but I think it's gonna be a winner. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, anyhow.

17. Why did he feel the need to re-record it?
Contractural nonsense?

18. I suspect that's part of it
and there were probably also technical and artistic reasons. SMiLE, of course, was never a finished product before now and maybe what he had to work with in the old tapes just didn't cut it for him anymore. Plus, the Beach Boys were never behind the original project. My guess is that he wanted to do it all himself and make a statement from where he is today.

Regardless, I can't wait to get my grubby little hands on this CD.
