9:00 p.m. Eastern Time: THE SOUL EXPRESS is on the air!
Once again, I'm pumping out three hours of '60s and '70s soul music on Connecticut's college radio airwaves. You can catch the show live on the Web by going here:

4. No, I mean the crap of today: McGraw, Jackson, Keith, etc...
I'd love to be a jock on a Classic Country station.

9. Hey Tom, I did that for a year and a half.
DJ on a "new country" station. After awhile I just had to shut off my music ears and regard it as background noise. That wasn't what I got into radio for, though, so I quit.

Do what you must to survive. And play a little Dwight Yoakum or Hal Ketchum for a kindred soul.

18. I've been in this business for 20 years...
and that's exactly what I do when I work a format that I can't stand. You have good taste, my friend. I'll throw some Hal Ketchum on for you. I've already played my Dwight Yoakum for tonight.

19. Stay strong.
I'll soon be starting as PD at a station that plays what I would choose to play my ownbadself. Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

22. Good luck with the new gig. I've been trying to land a pd job, too...
No luck yet. I guess 20 years experience in this crazy business doesn't mean much. I've done every job there is to do, too.

24. I got out of the business in 1995 and returned to my college-radio roots.
Doesn't pay anything, but I can play whatever I want, AND they let me have a personality! :bounce:

29. And all for the worse, I would imagine.
A buddy of mine who got into radio in '78 lost his overnight job to automation in 1999. Hasn't worked a day in the biz since, nor does he want to.

10. OMG!!! You are playing Etta!!
One of my favorites, too! I am so bummed that I've not listened before now...

I saw her live a few years ago and it was an amazing show. I couldn't sit still and finally gave up and danced in the aisle. She was laughing at that "crazy white chick" dancing up there in the aisle...
