3. LOL
Believe it or not, for a time the only way girls could wear pants to school (even if it was 10 below zero and snowing out the wazoo) was if they wore them under a dress. I remember this acutely, when I was in kindergarten/first grade growing up in the midwest.

Now they do it for fashion? Somehow that is funny to me.....

6. I was just going to say that.
This went all the way through high school for me. NO pants and my high school was a campus style so we were outside after every class. Even with that the pants had to come off inside and they could NOT be jeans, only proper pants for the girls. Did you also have to line up and have your skirt length measured? We did in Jr High and our bangs. God I am glad they stopped doing that.

11. Hah, Yes, you know it. Measured skirts!
I was feeling a little old, so glad to have someone else who remembers this!

13. We had to kneel
Our skirt length had to be at least from the hip to the floor from the kneeling position, but if you wnated a longer skirt, that was OK, you could get that to order.

I clearly remember wearing shorts under my skirts in grade school to foil those boys who thought it was fun to lift up our skirts in the yard or wherever (in grade school, we were not allowed to wear pants). But as a fashion statement, oh please.

14. Yes
every morning we would line up in the halls on our knees. If our skirt did not touch the floor we were sent home. If our bangs were not 2 finger widths above our eyebrows they were cut for us and usually VERY short. If we did not have bangs we had to wear a hairband to keep it out of our faces and our hair was to be no longer than our sholder blades. While we were lined up the boys would walk by and laugh at us, they in their short, very tight jeans. They did not laugh when they had to come into Home Ec (a required class for girls) to have their pants sewn up. Yes, we have come a long, long way from those days and I do not like what I am seeing in the trends these days. I do not want my sons to have daughters who have to go through that kind of humiliation. It was tough in the days of Twiggy to wear your skirts below your knees.

15. My goodness
We didn't have to do it every day, thankfully. Though before my time, my high school (all-female Catholic, natch) made you wear your hat and gloves when you reached something like the five-block radius around the school.

Who thought this bit of brilliance up? Stupid and wrong. Hell, it makes supermodels and screen-queens look bad.

19. why?
It looks like a skirt but works for women who feel more comfy in shorts!

Men have absolutely no reason to critique women's clothing choices, no offense.

20. A religious thing?
I knew a lot of girls growing up whose churches didn't allow them to wear pants, unless they were worn underneath a skirt.

Yeah, they looked weird as shit, but if it's what Jesus wants you to do . . .

:eyes:
