Freeper Smack-down Report

Wearing my new Kerry button: "John Kerry: Bringing complete sentences back to the White House." Went to Starbucks and got TWO freepers!!!

1) Cashier kid saw my button and said, "I forgot to wear my Bush button." I replied, "Well, that's a good thing, isn't it?" Young blood then READ my button, and muttered, "How about complete THOUGHTS?" to which I replied (with dignity and a smile) "That would still be Kerry, wouldn't it?" Chastened, he said nothing more. :)

2) Still grinning over my admittedly easy victory, I sat down in one of the comfy chairs with my latte, a croissant and a newspaper. An older woman next to me apparently glanced up, and became Very Indignant. I will attempt to transcribe the conversation (which had me maintaining a calm, cool, slightly distracted poise that I still can't believe I pulled off) --

Her: "Kerry! I don't like Kerry."
Me: (nonchalantly) "I like Kerry."
Her: "I like Bush!"
Me: "I DON'T like Bush."
Her: "I would be ASHAMED to be wearing something showing my support for him!"
Me: "I agree. I would be TOTALLY ASHAMED to be showing support for Bush."
Her: "That's not what I meant!"
Me: "Really? You started this conversation."
Her: "Bush understands WAR!"
Me: "Yes, that's probably why he avoided it."
Her: "He didn't avoid it -- he went to war!"
Me: "No, that's John Kerry who went to Vietnam; Bush was AWOL."
Her: (sputtering) "Kerry threw his medals away!"
Me: "Yes, when he came back from war and said that 'war is bad'."
Her: "War isn't bad! The bible says war is okay."
Me: (condescending) "Oh, you mean because Bush is the Anti-Christ?"
Her: "He is NOT the anti-Christ!"
Me: "You need to read Revelations."
Her: "He is NOT the anti-Christ!"
Me: "Well, SOME PEOPLE say that HE IS, and that is why THEY are voting for him!"

At which point my little freeper decided she had had enough of the conversation, and ignored me while I enjoyed my latte! I am also happy to report that LOTS OF PEOPLE around us were avidly watching the conversation, and a surreptitious glance around by me saw LOTS of grinning. It Was Beautiful!!! I am still glowing as I type!

I love you, too! <smile> Also, yes - kept my cool, yes - it is probably going to driver her nuts all day <happy me!>, don't know what religion she thought she was, not sure if the worker was straight but definitely a Bush supporter, and I'm not sure why either of them were in Starbucks. :) (1-21 Answered & Appreciation Dust to All!!!)

I do what you did in my practice, but people got upset with me here so I stopped reporting my actions to the DU Board, even though I love them like a family. A dysfunctional family perhaps, but a family nonetheless.

10. They are never able to bring up anything positive about Bush

He has 4 years in the White House and nobody can say "The economy is great" or "He created millions of jobs" or "The environment is better off" or "Schools are doing way better" or "Less people are poor" ... etc., etc...


The only thing he gets credit for is starting a war. And that didn't work out too well. Unless, of course, you think creating a quagmire and recruiting more terrorists is a positive accomplishment.

I hate to break it to her but the bible is not a book of facts....Just stories...like the ones Bush keeps giving us...story after story, but unlike the bibles stories that have some merit in guiding folks to be better people, for the most part, Bush's stories are meant mislead us and trust a liar.
