A Dog's Prayer
Edited on Sat Aug-28-04 10:19 AM by mermaid
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of mine.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hands between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps fall upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth.
Though you had no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest house in all the land, for you are my God, and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for, although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst.
Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing, and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather, hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of wtwrnal rest...and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

And, master, I shall wait for you, until we are rejoined, never again to be parted!

(This is where I will be waiting for you... http://rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm )

Someone posted the rainbow bridge poem the other day and it just killed me. I'm such a sucker for doggy love stories.

3. I Cry Whenever I See That Poem...
There's another site on the net where that is posted, but I couldn't bring myself to post that one. I can't even go to that site anymore. Because that one has a MIDI of the sone "The Rainbow Connection" on the page...and just hearing that song makes me cry.

I tell you, most of us humans are so undeserving of the love and dedication dogs give us!! They give us so much more than we can ever give them!

I truly believe my dog, Lyric, was a gift to me from God, and from Jesus...that I would never have to be lonely again. And as a sign of their love for me...they gave me the ability to obtain my beloved dog...(although, in all honesty...SHE owns ME!!)

Lyric truly is a living reminder of our Creator's love for me...and of course, a loving companion in her own right!

In fact...her tags...they do not say "Lyric - I Belong To - etc..."
my dog's tags read: "Lyric - I Am Loved By - etc..."

4. I've been googling to find the site you mentioned
but haven't yet. I did find one that plays the Titanic song while you read the poem and has a beautiful picture too of what it would be like.

Could you post the link for the page you mentioned? I'd like to have it too.

AT RAINBOW BRIDGE

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows,
hills and valleys with lush green grass.

When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm Spring weather.
Those old and frail animals are young again.
Those who have been maimed are made whole again.
They play all day with each other.

Some of them here by the Bridge are different.
These pets were beaten, starved, tortured, and unloved.
They watch wistfully as their friends leave one by one,
to cross the bridge with their special person.
For them there is no one, no special one.
Their time on earth did not give them one.

But one day, as they run and play,
they notice someone standing by the road to the bridge.
This person wistfully watches the reunions of friends,
for during life, this person had no pet.
This person was beaten, starved, tortured, and unloved.

Standing there alone, one of the unloved pets approaches,
curious as to why this one is alone.
And as the unloved pet and the unloved person get nearer to each other,
a miracle occurs, for these are the ones who were meant to be together,
the special person and the beloved pet who never had the chance to meet while on Earth.
Finally, now, at the edge of the Rainbow Bridge, their souls meet,
the pain and the sorrow disappears, and two friends are together.

They cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

7. You Are Quite Welcome
I am all about my dog...I love her so much, there aren't even words to express the depth of love I have for her...and even if there WERE words to describe it...our love is such that no words are even necessary.
Both of us know that each of us would die to save the other, if it came to that.

9. Kinda puts politics in perspective, I guess...
...in the sense that it reminds us that we are all, ultimately, just a bunch of creatures who share this planet, and so we should remember that all life is precious and we all have it within ourselves to make another fellow creature happy if we only try, just a little bit, to do the right thing, and let's please understand that pain and suffering is not limited to humans.

Except for mosquitoes. I reserve the right to kill those bastards because they are bedeviling me each and every night.

10. LOL
Mosquitoes and fleas and cockroaches are exceptions, I agree with you there!! and spiders!! eesh, they creep me out!!

It it has two or four legs...then it deserves to be treated with dignity, respect, and love.

More than four, or less than two legs...and I don't care. (except of course humans who have had the misfortune of losing one or more limbs as a result of illness, injury, or birth defect...)

Basically, what I mean here is...any creature who naturally has two or four legs...regardless of how many they currently have!!
