4. And once the cops catch the guy...
the narc squad will probably celebrate the bust by going out for beer. Oh. the irony.

Sorry, drug laws are fucked up, and the only reason there is drug crime is because drugs are illegal and only available on the black market...personally, if someone wants to engage in the victimless crime of using drugs (even cocaine or heroin), I don't see where it hurts anyone. The "war on drugs" is nothing more than a revenue source for law enforcement and a backdoor excuse for eroding constitutional rights...

7. It's a racket and an excuse for totalitarianism, all wrapped up in one.

And a monumental waste of tax dollars to boot.

I'm firmly of the opinion that the government doesn't have any business telling consenting adults what they can and cannot do with their own bodies-- presuming they don't endanger anyone else.. (by driving, operating forklifts, that sort of thing)

11. You had me until victimless
I work in a school with a very high number of children whose mom and dad were/are addicted to crank, cocaine, heroin, alcohol and marijuana. I argue that there are victims of recreational drug use.

Now, I agree that the war on drugs is stupid and meaningless so spend the money on doing something to help these people whose lives are so fucked they feel the need to suck fumes through a glass pipe, snort powders through a straw, inject fluids into their veins while passing on the high and its side effects to their children.

12. ....and....so many resort to CRIME to get their fixes.....
......all sorts of crimes get committed.....all sorts of thefts...robberies....sometimes armed....so it's not always victimless...and once one becomes addicted....then by all intents and purposes....they become a victim too...

5. Didja ever hear about Cokie the Bear?
A brown bear was found dead in the "mountains" of north Georgia of cardiac arrest due to acute cocaine toxicity. Seems he had intercepted a drop shipment of peruvian marching powder and consumed several *pounds*. He died quickly. This was about 1984.

The police in Georgia and Florida intercept drug traffic on I-75 every day of the week. It's unreal how much comes into this country.

For bonus points, I'll sing the Reverend Horton Heat's Bales of Cocaine:

Well, I was workin' on my farm 'bout 1982,
Pullin' up some corn and a little carrot, too
When two low-flying aeroplanes, 'bout a hundred feet high
Dropped a bunch o' bales o' somethin', some hit me in the eye...

So I cut a bale open, an' man was I surprised
Bunch o' large sized baggies, with big white rocks inside
So I took a little sample to my crazy brother Joe
He sniffed it up and kicked his heels, said, "Horton, that's some blow!"

Bales of cocaine, fallin' from low-flyin' plane
I don't know who done dropped 'em, but I thank 'em just the same
Bales of cocaine, fallin' like a foriegn rain
My life changed completely by the low-flyin' planes

So I loaded up them bales in my pick-em-up truck,
Headed west for Dallas, where I would try my luck
I didn't have a notion if I could sell 'em there,
But, thirty minutes later, I was a millionaire...

Bales of cocaine, fallin' from low-flyin' plane
I don't know who done dropped 'em, but I thank 'em just the same
Bales of cocaine, fallin' like a foriegn rain
My life changed completely by the low-flyin' planes

And now I am a rich man, but I'm still a farmer, too
But I sold my farm in Texas, bought a farm down in Peru
And when I get so homesick, I think I'm goin' insane,
I travel back to Texas in a low-flyin' plane...

Bales of cocaine, fallin' from low-flyin' plane
I don't know who done dropped 'em, but I thank 'em just the same
Bales of cocaine, fallin' like a foriegn rain
My life changed completely by the low-flyin' planes...

9. yay, 1 of X shipments was stopped, monumental success!
/sarcasm off

but at least your community could use $26,000 to support services. too bad it'll most likely sit around as evidence and then get whisked away by a larger dept. on the case...

but we can dream that it was productive, can't we? can't we?

10. De-Criminalize it,
Take out the criminal level, these Cartels have got to go. It's the only way we will ever win the "War On Drugs."

I hate the Cartels. They run everything - just about - down here, and they are scumbags. Fuck 'em !

13. translation: $20K worth of cocaine was seized
Cops always inflate the estimated monetary value of drugs they seize.

And I'm sure at least one of the bags was a little light, and some of the officers will be having a high time at their celebration tonight.
