26. As much as I love Mel Blanc
and as much as I love Foghorn J. Leghorn, the original concept was better. The character was created by Kenny Delmar on the Fred Allen radio show. His name was Senator Claghorn and he was a denizen of "Allen's Alley."

Having said that, how come nobody has mentioned the wonderful characters Mel Blanc did on Jack Benny's radio show? (Bugs Bunny even made a surprise cameo appearance on one episode.)

Sue?...Si
Sew?...Si

Not to mention that Mel was the "voice" of Jack Benny's Maxwell motorcar. He was great both on JB's radio and TV shows.

Maybe you don't fully realize the um, well loved and respected, fully embraced and acceptable diversity and nature of our DU family. I don't take kindly to slights and insults of loved ones!

So again I ask, what say you? :evilfrown:

9. Gimme an orange aid
and a BI carbonate of soda.

Years ago we were in Telluride on a vacation and we took lots of car trips around the area. There was a lot of work on the road to Ridgeway and one of the guys on the crew looked exactly like Yosemite Sam. I finally took the video camera and got him on tape, it is quite funny. All the way down to the large, red handlebar!

14. Mel Blanc did not do Woody Woodpecker.
Grace Staffort was the voice of Woody.

I voted for Daffy because I didn't see Yosemite Sam.

18. My bad, he did do the voice in some early stuff.
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 03:20 PM by MrSlayer
I wouldn't consider him to be one of Blanc's characters though. Lantz felt that Woody sounded too evil with Blanc doing the voice. Great write up about Woody's evolution here. http://msms.essortment.com/walterlantzwoo_rsvz.htm

19. If you've seen that short, you'll agree with Lantz.
Blanc's Woody did sound quite a bit more malevolent.

Bugs doesn't "fill a room" like Foghorn Leghorn.

30. I once saw Mel Blanc give a lecture at MIT and
he did a number of the voices as he talked about his career and the characters. It was a lot of fun seeing the man doing the voices.

Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner (not that the Roadrunner said much, but that was a great cartoon).
