Great, campy silent flick. Joan was quite the dancer!

8. I did this poll about a year ago! No contest in my book--Joan
Bette was such an overacting ham! Fun to watch, and a true star because she had so much screen presence, but she really could not act.

If I recall, Bette won my poll.

24. One of my favorite quotes from that film. . .
Monte: "Yes I take money from you, Mildred. But not enough to make me like kitchens or cooks. They smell of grease."

21. Nope--you should rent Humoresque--a brilliant, restrained performance
She could do that--Bette could only be over the top, which was fun to watch, but it ain't acting!

26. I do think that she had more
star power. Did you ever hear the rumor that Joan Crawford came on to her and when she refused her advances, Joan Crawford set out to destroy her?

10. Hey, I was watching "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" also when I did my
poll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you are Blanche, you are!

I don't think anyone from that movie is alive anymore now that Anna Lee is gone. Oh, the daughter next door--Bette's real-life daughter who turned on her--I bet she's still kicking.

35. Bette! Then Joan.
Bette in all but her late films. Joan in her earliest and mid career. Didn't like her late films either.

AND, Turner Classic Movies 'TCM' is doing a month of '24 hours with a different star' every day in August.

Bette Davis day is Aug. 19th

They are NOT doing a Joan Crawford day. Boo Hiss.

Go check it out at turnerclassicmovies.com

The one's I'm looking forward to:

Aug. 7 - Katharine Hepburn

Aug. 10 - Henry Fonda

Aug. 14 - Bogart

Aug. 21 - James Stewart

Aug. 22 - Olivia De Havilland

Aug. 23 - Ginger Rogers (not the dancing films - just regular old 'film' films. She was great in those.

Aug. 27 - Cary Grant - no explanation needed. :)

Aug. 29 - Gregory Peck

Cannot understand how they would skip Crawford!

38. Bette
Joan was scary-I saw "Mommie Dearest" before I ever saw any of her movies. I did love "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane", but it was Bette's performance that made that movie.

41. Factoid for the (straight) guys... I read that Bette Davis was bitching
about Joan Crawford on the set of "Whatever Happened To Baby Jane" (actually the article said they both hated each other) because JC was supposed to lose weight for her invalid role; but the more weight she lost the bigger her boobs got, and Bette wasn't happy about that.
