The only thing that hurts our society is one way thinking! There is no right way and wrong way to live and love. All one must do is to follow rules that help keep everyone safe like driving laws and not killing or stealing. Whatever else is up to that person. if at legal age to do so. Living with another person, having sex out of wedlock, having children ( or not having)in or out of marrage, being gay and wish to wed, being gay and not wanting to wed, ect. If it hurts no one else then go for it!
There are many families out there that are not what is "normal" at to daddy,mommy, kids type that are wonderful. Then there are those that are the "normal" way and are horried! So do what is right for you!
