Who here has listened to the band Blue Cheer?
I have heard their cover of 'Summertime Blues' and that is about it. What to you think of them.

1. Not bad for an early metal band
If you dig that stuff you'll like them.

2. They were playing back in the 60's
They were pretty much a one hit wonder but I love that song. Heard the first few chords on Randi the other day. Brought back memories of my high school years.

3. Their second album (either called "insideoutside" or "outsideinside")
is great. All their other albums are crap.

5. King of the Fuzz Guitar
They represent a pretty decent effort at white boys blues, around the end-of-yardbirds-beginning-of-zeppelin time. Unfortunately, they never seemed to be able to do anything other than fuzz guitar work, and so they didn't catch fire. Their version of "The Hunter" (which Led Zeppelin threw in "How Many More Times") is quite memorable.

I have a best-of long CD of their stuff, and I don't regret it.

6. Saw them on the Steve Allen afternoon show
Edited on Fri Jun-25-04 11:38 PM by The_Casual_Observer
when he would have the likes of the Mothers of Invention on.
You could hear the buzzing of the Marshall amps before they started during the intro. Steve Allen showed the record jacket and mentioned the name of it "Vincebus Eruptum" - he really really pronounced it Vinceboos - and wondered why. He went on to warn the audience that they were about to hear the loudest thing ever. I believe they played Summertime Blues and Parchman Farm. They were kind of crappy, but their summertime blues predated the Who's version and is a lot better than the horrible live-at-leed one. They all had matching late 60's hollywood band shoulder length blond hair and the singer sounded kind of like a surfer.

7. "Oh Pleasant Hope"
:When we gonna get our dope"...I like that album....NOT like the other stuff.

When I did my 60s radio show "I'm the Light" into the Four Tops "Wonderful Baby" was a great segue! Try it sometime!

9. Their version of "Summertime Blues" is my favorite.
I have that 45. At the time, they were the loudest band there was. Of course, that was long before Motorhead existed. :-)
