Poll question: Coffee Drinkers- when did you start? Caffeine preference?
The LBN post on the caffiene free plant got me wondering when people started drinking the stuff. I started when I was 15, and personally don't care if it has caffine or not, except after a great evening dinner and dessert when I DEFINITELY don't want it, but want to enjoy a cup.

Anyway, reading the posts thee got me wondering how people's attitude is affected by how long they've been drinking it and what is the dependency you have for it/caffine. So...

when did you start and what's your preference?

1. After my second child was born
I need and it better be leaded because I still have 2 kids, a house,a hubby, an "outside" job and my own business! Decaffeinated is NOT an option! Double espresso for me and make it quick.

2. Hell my Mom used to give us coffee in 3rd grade for breakfast.

She would have coffee with toast in the winter for us kids for breakfast. My Dad's bucket of butts would be sitting right next to the toast. It didn't stunt my growth. I am a big fat pig.

Edited for spelling.

6. Yes, WANT more that NEED
and I started at 15. In the morning before school I would take a cup from the parents' machine. Now I try to ONLY drink FAIR TRADE, SHADE-GROWN, ORGANIC. Memorize those words.

7. oh, as a toddler, honestly
or maybe even before. I used to ride in a backpack on my mom or dad's back and pull their hair until they gave me some cappuccino (it was Italy, after all) same thing with beer.

Of course, I then gave up beer until late in high school, but the voffee kinda stuck. shit stunted my growth, I'm the world's only 6'6 midget.

8. The first quarter of my freshman year in college
Edited on Thu Jun-24-04 10:28 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
I lived in an outer suburb of Minneapolis and was enrolled in the University of Minnesota, which is in the center of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.

My ride left our suburb at 6:30AM and left the campus at 4:00PM. Coffee was what kept me alive, and even though I transferred to another school and lived on campus, I never lost the habit.

Then, going to Hawaii and Japan in my twenties, I encountered the Good Stuff for the first time, and I was really hooked.

9. Not till I was in my late 20s
Before that I never drank the stuff. Instead I drank Diet Coke at 9 am -- which now just grosses me out. I did manage to give up caffeine for a while, but went back. It's my only real vice.

But then I moved back to an area with Dunkin' Donuts...and now I'm there every morning.

11. My grandparents got me started
when I was about 9 or 10. I know it was mostly milk, but I felt so grown up :-).

Now I drink it black and the stronger the better.

12. 16, serious caffeine addict
starting doing a lot of things at age 16 }(

that was also when I realized coffee and cigarettes made a great team (what's that Denis Leary line...cigarettes and cousin coffee??)

drink hot coffee all morning

switch to cold caffeine (diet soda) mid-day

consume either type of caffeine for the rest of the day

sleep, then repeat

13. Age 21, on my first early-morning job.
I do love my little "high-test" lift in the morning, but I give it up for Lent every year just to remind myself I don't REALLY need it.

14. I Started Drinking Coffee in High School
My kids started much earlier. Their mother was a recovering alcoholic, and used to take them along to AA meetings when she couldn't get a sitter. So my kids started drinking coffee in 4th and 6th Grade.
