Yet Another Pussy Thread: Rare Kittens Born In Germany

Rare Kittens Born In Germany
Manul Cats Have Longest, Thickest Fur Of Species

Four Manul kittens made their first public appearance at a zoo in Berlin, Germany.

Manul cats are from the mountains between Afghanistan and Mongolia.

They have longest and thickest fur of the cat species and can weigh up to 8 pounds.

Their fur is sometimes made into clothing.

The kittens will stay at the zoo with their parents until they get older, when they'll be sent to other zoos to be bred.

"Underwear wearers, what kind of underwear do you wear?"

Should those who go commando answer this if it addressed to "underwear wearers"?

Actually, I have a better pic - somewhere - of one we saw just north of Fairbanks (12-Mile Summit) but damn if I can find it. If I do, I'll post it. He was an adult, though.

Yes, those are PAWS!

40. They make damn fine campanions
God, I do love those cats.
They are very sweet, horribly sensitive
and physically superior.
If you suffer from clinical depression
and the black dog is upon you, the cat knows
even before you do. They will keep their distance,
but they will watch you.

Never cry in front of them, for they grieve with you.
Be ready to cradle them in your arms when
their 'mate' dies. They are inconsolable, sometimes for months.
Be prepared to cry with them.

15. Soo... Acinonyx jubatus and Otocolubus manul enter a tavern.
As they belly up to the bar, the owner asks, "What will you have, then?"
Acinonyx turns to Otocolubus as they break into
wild laughter. "Well... kitty cocktails, of course!"

Pallas's Cat is a very good boy.
I have only come across two in my 23 years of
working with wild cats. They are most excellent.

24. The primary physical difference between Felis catus and
the wild cats is..... the size of the brain.
These cats makes awesome companions. Not pets.
Companions. I loves 'em.

39. They have one in Tampa, at Big Cat Rescue:

(Also known as the living Cheshire cat!)
He's very shy, but they might let you feed him. I've fed him once, but I had to stand back ten feet before he would come out of his den.
Go to www.bigcatrescue.org for more information on their visitors programs (a wonderful time for animal lovers)!

I'll stick to my Oberon. He's big and hairy, but doesn't have a mean bone in his body!

42. I help in a cat rescue operation here, my downfall..........
Now I have 5 rescues, and they are NOT SPOILED. Even if I did build them an outdoor cat tree, put in a Cat Fence-In (tm) system, and use the snowblower to make them paths in the winter...............

I'd love to work with the wild ones, but the State handles those here, and most of 'em (thank God) are still wild.

43. No, never have-but I've stayed in the cabins!
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 10:07 PM by Jen6
I've done the "expedition Easy street" several times, and stayed in a cabin with Raindance the bobcat (reminds me a lot of my Obie!). Esmerelda the Serval and Sher Khan the Bengal/ Siberian mix are favorites too, along with Hercules the Snow Leopard.I like to take my animal loving guests there instead of Disney's Animal Kingdom; I think it's much more memorable. Besides, you don't get to train the tigers or romp with Lynx at Animal Kingdom! Have you done the Easy street tour too?

46. One of the many activities at BCR: Tiger training!
Edited on Thu Jun-10-04 10:06 PM by Jen6
Here's some photos from my mom's birthday tour at Big Cat Rescue; we petted and played with lynx, bobcats, servals and caracals, then fed the big guys (lions, tigers, leopards, panthers, snow leopards, cougars, etc.) and did some opperant conditioning and enrichment with them (made treats and toys for the kitties, then hid them in their cages and watched the fun)! It's a great sanctuary that takes in unwanted wild "pets", old circus animals, and zoo overstock. The animals have roomy outdoor pens and little public intrusion into their daily lives. They seem much happier than animals at the zoo!

Here I am trying to teach "Muffy" to lay down on command, the second photo shows my mom SUCCESSFULLY training Muffy (moms know how to be commanding!) The third photo is of Sher Khan, who actually looks small in this picture!
