Deutsche DUers Hier!
Okay--I got all depressed reading all the great Irish DUer stories since I have nary a drop of Irish. But I'm about 3/4 German!

Where are all our German DUers roots from?

If you don't know, here's some good links to get you started:
www.rootsweb.com
www.genforum.com

Fudge Stripe roots:
Dad's side: 1 bunch from Sagau/Eutin, Schleswig-Holstein

Mom's side: 1 bunch from around Gladbeck/Muhlheim/Remscheid, Westphalia. Earlier generation might have been Polish but settled in Prussia.

5. Wow..I'd love to hear...

....more perspective from our international DUers. Please tell us...what's gone wrong with our country..???

Sorry, it's just pretty depressing to be a liberal American this day and age. Maybe things will change.

7. Mom's family from Dresden
Cousin several times removed owns a hotel on the Rhine!

My wife (before I met her) was fascinated with the German language, spent several summers in Germany in Hign School, got a Masters in German literature.

Never thought she'd end up with German relatives

8. Since my ma was born in Bad Nauheim.

...im pretty close to my German roots. LOL!

This would be the part of Germany known as Hesse, or Hessen.

Probably more famous to Americans as the source of those mercenarys..though the came from a different part of modern Hessen. At the time of the US revolution my ancestors lived in the "free city of Friedberg" as craftsmen, so wherent under the control of the local princes.

Bad Nauheim has American connections as Franklin Roosevelt spent time here as a kid with his famliy when they took the cure, and later Elvis was stationed here and nearby Friedberg:

On edit...the Fathers side was Polish..my great grandparents emigrated from Lodz, Poland, by way of Antwerp, to Chicago, before WW-I. We've been in the US less than 100 years.

9. Im Jahre 1899 haben meine Urgrossmutter und Urgrossvater
Edited on Mon May-31-04 11:29 AM by Lydia Leftcoast
