Am I being a brat?? I am not thrilled about going to Tahiti...
My husband just called and his boss has invited us to go to Tahiti with them in October..9 days all expenses paid...

BUT....

that long on a plane is CREEPING me OUT...:(:(

That and the fact that we do not "know" them well..(except for the occasional company picnic meetings)..

Years ago I would have killed for such a trip, but now I am a bit of a stick-in-the-mud, and don't really like to go places anymore..:(

My husband is really eager to go, so we are going, but I am sitting here with mixed emotions..

I have not even owned a bathing suit for years...Do they even make them for chubby old ladies like me:(

5. You better go, or else
your hubby may find a bikini on someone else...

Just kidding, take a deep breath, don't think in the negative, don't worry about being chubby. Why do you think the airlines charge chubby people for two seats? That's right, because lots of chubby people go south, well, it seems all the fat goes south, you know what I mean, it goes directly to the ass.

11. I won't need two seats, but
you all know how vain women can be about bathing suits :( It hurts when you see all the "girlies" and you can still remember when YOU were a "girlie":(...)

6. The plane ride is supposed to be a killer
But, just think, SoCal, you'll get to practice your French! So if you wanna forego the bathing suit, spend your time enjoying the wine!

I am sure that people speak some english there:).. I'll have to make sure I get some of those memory things for my digital camera.. I learned my lesson the hard way at my son's wedding.. a 32 whatever it is, is too small to hold the number of pictures I wanted to take :(

22. Is pareo French?
It's a great way to gracefully cover up the no longer elfin body. Go shopping, go to Tahiti and have a great time. By the way, if I had the same opportunity, I would feel exactly like you do.

8. Chubby old ladies aren't brats, they're haybags. So Go!
And have a blast. Have fun. Why be a haybag, when you can be a delight?

9. My son went there to scuba dive a few years ago.
He said it was beautiful. He loved the diving. He said the trip itself was awful, horrible, and a few other adjectives. He was absolutely wiped out from it.

I would feel a lot like you do about the plane trip. I really would.

Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 12:18 PM by DemEx_pat
DemEx

Edit: Movies and meals break the monotony of 10 hour plus flights and I often fly exhausted after being up all night preparing for the trip which helps me nap......

18. Tahiti itself isn't wonderful but . . .
some of the island around Tahiti, i.e, Moorea, Bora Bora, etc., are absolutely beautiful. They're like an undeveloped Hawaii. Here's where we stayed when we went last year:

http://www.dream-island.com/main.html

Find a good place to hang out with the locals and absorb the culture -- Polynesians are wonderful people. Don't forget to brush up on your French. Lots of things to do there. Parasailing, tour the islands, rent a motorcycle for the day, snorkling, scuba diving, luaus, visit the geological sites, see the works of the local arisans -- lots of things to do.

Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to answer them for you.

23. What airline are you going on?
Edited on Thu Aug-21-03 02:46 PM by Lydia Leftcoast
That can make a huge difference.

I've heard that Air Tahiti Nui is quite pleasant.

But don't worry. I have survived more trips to Japan than I can remember offhand, and that's ten hours from Portland.

Try to reserve a seat on the aisle in the middle section. That cuts down on your chances of having someone next to you. (Not having someone next to you is okay if your husband has annoying habits, right? :-) )

Being in the front row of the second middle section gives you lots of leg room, but it's also the superhighway to the toilets, so people trip over your feet all night.

Oh, and let me be the third to volunteer to be your husband's mistress if you still don't want to go to Tahiti.
