1. I thought it was so very bad,
I went in expecting to - wanting to - love this movie. And I don't think I could have been more disappointed.

I'm willing to suspend my disbelief but the movie was riddled with SO MANY implausible events that it insulted my good faith efforts.

Were these the only "loves" they could come up with - sex and infatuation, with only a minimal nod to any other loves?

And how many of these "loves" included subservient women? Maids, secretaries and so on. <sigh>

And poor Hugh Grant had to play a character who appears to have won the job of prime minister in a lottery or box of cereal, since the character has nothing to recommend him for the job, or any clue how to handle the job.

So many great actors, such a talented writer and director, and such a dreadful result. :-(

2. Don't expect Gone with the Wind
but its decent entertainment. Plot flaws big enough to drive a flock of Hummers through, but some great moments. Wonderful scene when Grant takes on Billy Bob thornton who is playing Bush* - Wish Blair could've done the same - we might not be worrying about Iraq at this point.

Too many subplots not nicely stitched together, but if you don't think too hard its a pleasant way to while away 2 hours. YOu could do so much worse.

3. I enjoyed it.
And there were other loves represented.

Husband/wife
Husband/mistress
Rock star and manager
Sister and brother
PM and his employees (mostly 1)
Father and son
puppy love between children

It was fluffy, yes, but I thought it was a kick for the Christmas season.

But I would have been far more selfish than Laura Linney. I mean...
$%^$ the brother; the guy was HOT!

5. It was awful!
I felt pity for the talented cast. Everything, the script, the direction, even a lot of the acting was just pathetic. I thought that with such a great cast it couldn't be that bad, but it was.

Also, did anyone think that the wedding (Keira Knightly, her husband and the "friend") was a bit strange? It seemed to start out like the friend was actually in love with the groom, and then it's like they decided not to go with the gay theme after all.

I could go on and on about what's wrong with it, but I won't.

6. I haven't seen it, but here was my sister's reaction to the film
She liked it, but told me at the end, when apparently there's an airport scene, she completely lost control of herself with weeping. Seems she'd never understood that teary airport scene in movies until she lived it with me a couple of years ago. She'd never flown before coming to see me -- who moved away from home & family forever four years ago.
