Ughhhhh.. Tonsillitis

Well. I have tonsillitis. I was given a course of Zithromax. Ugh. I hate this antibiotic. It gives me an upset stomach, and it gives me the shits. It fucking hursts to swallow, but at least my fever isn't as bad as it used to be.

1. It is a nasty infection, isn't it.

You alternate between feeling incredibly lousy all over and then, in a panic, wondering if you'll ever be able to swallow again. Take care of yourself, take your medicine, feel better soon.

2. Do you have to get them out?

When I was a kid (a millenium ago!) they were taken out as a matter of course, also with your adnoids...they sent me home with my adnoids in a glass jar!

3. No. Tonsillectomies are only done in extreme situations these days.

But, If I ever had to have one, as an adult, they'd only have to give me a local, according to WebMD. (I am extremely scared of general anesthesia.) It'd all be on an outpatient basis

But the question poses itself... Would I get sent home with a coupon for some free Ben and Jerry's?

6. I had my tonsils out a year & 1/2 ago at the age of 40

After suffering annual bouts of tonsilitis for 30 years, that were worsening as I aged, it was the best damn thing I could have done.

I found out I was so sick and tired all the time because I had a low-grade, chronic infection that just drained me, so making the decision for surgery was easy.

Haven't even had a sore throat since then. It was undoubtedly worth it for me even though I was down a month. But don't let that scare you. I went macrobiotic and lost 20 lbs.

4. Be careful and get well -- tonsillitis can lead to some nasty stuff...

Not the least of which is a kidney infection -- guzzle fluids like crazy and take those antibiotics, even though they have lousy side effects. Try some immodium tablets to minimize the intestinal upset, or get some plain yogurt or acidophilus to replenish your "native flora."

7. I'm feeling a little better today.

The throat pain is not as bad anymore, My fever seems to have subsided, but unfortunatley, I still have the shits. I'm downing Garpe Juice and Powerade like Crazy, and I've had so much soup that that Campbell's is making a fucking mint of of me. I'm also trying the yogurt thing to reciver my digestive system bacteria.
