Tantris is old, and can barely hold himself up on his back legs now. The prednisone has about done all it can for the last few months, but he just seems to have a harder and harder time with it.

Send good thoughts my way to help me make the right decision for him.

3. He's about 12-13.
Not real sure of his exact age because I adopted him fully grown and they estimated he was two or three years old then. I've had him for a decade. For a Chow Chow, that pretty old.

7. we have a beagle who's 15
Which is getting pretty old for a dog.

She's moving a bit slower these days and we're not sure how much longer we'll have her, but so far no serious problems. We just kinda figure a dog her age is on borrowed time, so to speak.

2. Peace and Karma
When you introduce your pup to the Great Spirit it will be the strongest act of love one can give.

4. You will do the right thing.
My thoughts are with you. Hold him tight, he knows you love him. Damn, I am crying for you. Good luck and come back to us if you need to when you are done.

5. I know it's a sad thing, but see if you can find a vet to do house calls
and do it at home. That's what I did with my old dog. It was WAY better than bringing her to a vet. She just lay down in the grass and they did it there, it was actually the way I'd like to go out, if I could have the choice.

Good luck with your decision. I know it's extremely difficult.

With my dog, she sorta let me know she was ready to go. She quit eating and drinking one day and would just sorta look up at me and I really got the impression she was done.

There are these other pills besides prednisone they can give, they work really well and are a major anti-inflammatory. Rimadyl? Something like that. I gave mine a mix of prednisone and those.

9. You loved him and cared for him the whole time you had him.
Now that he's too weary and pained to go on you're setting him free with the same devotion. One can only hope we'll treat our humans so well someday.
I'll be thinking of you both.

10. I've had to do this before. :( But I have come to think of it as the
kindest most personal act of love and friendship you can give a pet, to help them through the toughest thing they have to face. Your baby knows you love them the best. They will only love you. Remember that.
