4. I hope they are getting SOME Fancy Feast and not

Even cats need variety in their diets.

5. They Had To
They thought the cats were a nusiance but learned the cats were keeping the flea-bitten rats under control.

Just another example of the locals knowing a lot more than the troops with "their" superior edcuation and attitudes.

7. Of course they took cats with them.
It is by no means unusual for an army to take it's own food animals with it. Soldiers travel on their stomachs you know.

9. Didn't the Church have programs against cats in Europe way back when?
Seems I recall reading about dropping them off church steeples and other sorts of cat eradication programs (hmmm, suddenly thought of Ashcroft...)

Anybody know when those cat-tastrophies happened historically and do they seem to precede the rampaging of plague?

12. I was going to make the same comment

People don't learn from history. Leave the cats to wander. They only need capture them for innoculation against rabies.

The guard dogs can tolerate the situation as long as the cats stay the outside where they belong ;-)

BTW, some dogs make excellent mousers as well. Though, you wouldn't want to lose a good dog to rat bites ;-)
