How do I make a PDF?
Is there any way I can create PDFs using some kind of cheap or free software? It doesn't have to be a good PDF with text and image manipulation etc, just a PDF :-)

1. I think you need Acrobat Writer
Don't know any other way around it, but maybe someone else will have a clever alternative.

If not, PM me for my email address, and I'll pdf-itize it for you if you like.

2. Yep... You will need Adobe Acrobat Writer.
The reader is free and available almost anywhere but you have to pay for the writer.

3. You can do it with Appleworks on Mac OSX (Panther)
I'm not sure how, without buying full Acrobat, you can do it on a PC.

8. Actually you can do it in any application, as easy as printing
Apple-P, save as PDF. That simple.

I have not used the freeware PDF software at this link. I have no idea if it's worth a damn. I use Acrobat 5 Distiller with Quark. But it looks interesting. Good luck.

Acrobat 6.0 runs about $400.

10. I use a rather geeky, but free method
on Windows...install a printer driver for a Postscript printer (doesn't matter which one); configure the install to print to a file. Then get Ghostscript, which is free and available at

http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

Ghostscript allows you to print Postscript files on any printer, but also includes a utility that converts them to PDF. So you print any document to a Postscript file, then convert it.

There are several sites that give detailed instructions for this that can be googled. That's how I found out about it.
