I just bought "Chicago" on DVD...Ask me anything!

Okay guys, this my first "ask me anything" thread...so please dont be too harsh lol.

1. why do people buy movies on DVD

do you really watch them that often?

Lol, but I reallllllyyyyyyyy ADORE this movie. But you know, I'm like 17...so I cant be trusted with money anyways(great preview to what my spending habits will be later on in life heh) so I feel, better a DVD or book(which also can be questioned, as to why its bought anyways lol) or a necklace or sumthin, rather than cigarettes and...cigarettes. My friends are the biggest smoke stacks ever.

I enjoy DVD movies (over 80 so far and counting!) because I'm a movie buff who appricates having a format that won't wear out over time and have diminishing quality. The extra stuff is a nice bonus, and it's a selling point for lots of people, but it's not too important to me

18. Some extra stuff is annoying

I really dont pay attention to extra footage or cast interviews cause they bore me and make no diff if the DVD has or lacks them. I buy DVD's only because I a) Really like the movie and b) if I really like the flick , me and my pals usually watch them on rainy days or when were bored, so I dont have to run to blockbuster and get somethings good to watch.

23. No, but I like the format better

like the difference between CDs and cassetes. I don't have to spend a huge amount of time fastforwarding or rewinding. The picture and sound quality is higher, they take up less space, they don't degrade after time, and you can't ruin them by leaving them near a large speaker or other device with a magnet.

Special features and multiple languages is always nice. I rented "The Right Stuff" on DVD and watched parts of it in French with Spanish subtitles.

The "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" has a subtitle option the superimposes the script on the screen, and has another option that uses the script of Shakespeare's "Henry VII." It's great.

2. Why did the film critic at The Nation magazine...

...include "Chicago" on his list of the Worst Films of 2002? I thought it won the Academy Award for Best Picture, or that it was at least nominated.

"The Pianist" won. I don't read the nation really all that much, but some critics slam all musicals so maybe he just had his boxers in a twist because he thought that "Chicago" did not deserve even the nominations, let alone praise in a magazine or newspaper review article.

Catherine Zeta-Jones also won Best Supporting Actress.

5. I think its one of the best movies

Certainly the best movie of the last 10 years or so. Perhaps the reviewer didn't get the concept that the song and dance numbers occur in Roxie's head...

There's the song "Class" with Queen Latifah and Catherine Zeta-Jones that got cut. It's a good song but it's easy to see why it got cut as all the other songs occur in Roxie's mind as her interpretation of what she's seeing, and there's no way she could see what was going on, so it violated the internal logic of the movie.

Class is one BADASS song. Thanks for the input on the special feature. I shall have to get me ass over to the TV and watch it today. Your explanation makes a lot of sense because I myself was wondering when I listened to the soundtrack why in the world they would cut such a funny song out of the movie!

as I recall. Maybe it was in the extras section. I can't wait to get a hold of it myself but given how tight money is I may have to. In any case enjoy your purchase.

Money is tight with me too. I had to save my birthday money for this purchase because I am unable to get a job (thanks a lot for the shitty teen job market shrub!) Hopefully your situation gets better with time, and when you do get Chicago get it at like Sam's club or Target. They have DVDs for half of other store prices...and i refuse to go anywhere else cause I hate being ripped off on electronics and accessories.

Catherine Zeta-Jones was amazing, as was John C. Reilly. What a talent. (He sings "Mr. Cellophane".) Who knew that Renee Zellweger could sing and dance as well as she did?

I loved it; I know I'll watch it many, many times.

22. Cell Block Tango

Is genius, to put it lightly! John C Reilly was very awesome, and Mr. Cellophane was MADE for him because the way he played Roxies husband was so fitting to that song! Also I find it simply criminal that Richard Gere didn't even get nominated for Best Actor Oscar...his role was marvelous and honor worthy IMO. And as for Bowling for Columbine, I envy you! I need to save up a lot of change before I will be able to see that one.
