Companies confirm shipping date in summer heat

For more than two years gamers have been waiting for DOOM 3 to ship to retail stores but id Software, the creators of DOOM, keep telling that the game will ship when it's done and not a moment before them. Today a major step forward towards a release date for DOOM 3 was achieved when Activision, the game's distributor, announced that the game will ship at some point this upcoming summer.

Representatives for Activision and id Software refused to give a specific date or even month for when we can expect to be playing DOOM 3, but today's announcement is better than nothing.

8. If you need/want to play Doom again on Win XP...
go to Google and look up "Doom Legacy"
Adds mouselook, colored lighting, and multiplayer support for up to 64 players.
It's a nice tide-me-over until Doom 3.
(But you're going to neede the Doom .wad files to actually play it.)

4. Doom, man, that brings back memories
Me and my buds packing our old 386's and 486's down into a friends basement, hooking up the coax, spending hours getting the Lantastic IPX network debugged and running right, spending LITERALLY days in that dark, dank dungeon blasting the hell out of each other.

As great as todays shooters are, nothing will ever match the sheer amazement that the original Doom's inspired in everyone who played them. Today there are a million shooters to choose from and Doom3 will just be one more in the pile. But back then, Doom was it, and it was all we needed.

Damn, I miss that basement.

5. Yeah, yeah..........
we've heard this one before. I'm still waiting for Duke Nukem Forever, and that was only supposed to be out like 4-5 years ago! DOOM 3 is an id product, and id dangled the release date of Daikatana in front of our noses for over two years, and it turned out to be a crap-ass game.

The game I'm waiting for is STAR WARS: BATTLEGROUNDS. A SW game based on Battlefield 1942. THAT, my friend, will be sweet.

7. Id didn't write Dakaitana
Dakaitana was written by Ion Storm. Ion Storm WAS founded and run by John Romero, one of the original Id Software founders (and a brilliant programmer), but it was created after Romero left Id Software and there was no real relationship between the companies.

Battlegrounds should be awesome :)

10. Thats right........
nice catch. I totally forgot that Romero left id. Anyway, Daikatana totally blew. The interface sucked, the graphics were lame, and was there a point in there somwhere?
