You are the best gamer on Earth if
you are retired Marine Lieutenant General Paul Van Riper. Like most Marine generals, Van
Riper is someone whose opinions on battle tactics and strategy
are not something easily dismissed.

Last summer, the armed forces staged some war games. The
scenario was that of an attack on Iraq. In the games, which
involved 13,000 troops and a vast computer simulation, Paul
Van Riper played the role of Saddam Hussein.

In that role, he kicked Pentagon ass.

1. did he have his army vanish into the local population
and mount an insurgent campaign while trying to inspire sunnis and shiites to ally in efforts against the US?

2. I remember the story.
It came out when LGen Riper went public with the fact that the 'umpires' didn't like the way he was winning, so they took away some of his victories (sinking a amphibious assault ship in the gulf with boats full of explosives, knocking out a major airbase with commandoes, using motorcycle messengers to prevent communications intercepts, and using the 'calls to prayer' from Mosques to pass orders to insurgents...). Luckily for us, Saddam was no where near as good as LGen Riper.
Unfortunately for us, nobody took the idea that the Iraqi's would fight after Saddam was toppled seriously either.

6. Not to get into military strategy but...
didn't Saddam have his troops and armored divisions positioned to stop an Iraqi uprising more than to fight the US invasion?
