Edited on Thu May-06-04 04:44 PM by JohnLocke
My favorite is "Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there."

1. None. It should be changed to "America the beautiful."

4. Hmm
O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain.
For purple mountain majesties, above the fruited plain.
America! America! God shed his grace on thee!
And crowned thy good with brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea!

2. O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.
We need some fucking bravery right now.

And -- to quote Arthur Lee -- "we're all normal, and we want our freedom."

5. ...an absolutely unsingable anthem
It's barely singable as a solo.

Sung by a crowd of mixed voices it's out of range for one group or another. Either the high voices are grovelling at the beginning, or the high voices are screaming at the end.

7. My eyes? If you can then my hair's too short!
She asked him why
Why I'm hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and nighty-night night
My hair is a fright
I'm hairy high and low
But don't ask me why
'Cause he don't know
It's not for lack of bread
Like the Grateful Dead
Darlin...

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer hair
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Grow it, show it
Long as I can grow it
My hair

I can let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home for the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for the buzzing bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Grow it, show it
Long as I can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight and curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, steaming, gleaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Mangled, tangled, spangled
And spaghetti!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself
Don't never have to cut
'Cause it stops by itself

Oh, gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

And won't you give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer hair
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Grow it, show it
Long as I can grow it
My hair

Grow it, show it
Long as I can grow it
My hair

Hair ....

10. Kurt Vonnegut said
something to the effect that there are 14.7 billion National Anthems in the known universe and only one is composed of gibberish interspersed with question marks.

It would never sell, but I like "God Bless America", for the soaring quality of the music. Maybe it could be modified to "Karma Bless America" or "The Universe Bless America".
