Martina McBride to participate in Sean Hannity "Freedom Concert"!
I generally don't care for country music, but I've always enjoyed Martina's voice and songs (or at least the songs people have written for her). She's always seemed to be a big supporter of women's rights, etc., so imagine my surprise when I discovered she's going to be the big name act in a "Sean Hannity Freedom Concert" at Six Flags in New Jersey!

I want to contact people in her organization and on her website about Hannity's hate, but I need some good quotes. Anybody have a favorite anti-Hannity page or three?

I'd also urge you all to do the same. I always thought Martina was above this sort of thing, but I guess money wins.

13. she volunteered..
she was also in his concert last year I believe, along with a few other people...supposedly they do it on their own dollar, since it is designed to raise money for charity

I know freeps that still listen to the dixie chicks cuz they like their music, and if I were a country fan, I wouldn't let this keep me from liking her stuff...it seems ridiculous to boycott good art because of unrelated politics.

I would argue that the art ain't good, and the politics ain't unrelated.

I personally try not to support people who favor policies and politicians that are harmful to myself, my family, my world.

3. Doesn't she sing "Let Freedom Ring"
When Hannity's show finally returns from another excruciatingly long commercial break, a few bars of that song plays.

"Sean Hannity Freedom Concert"... that's hilarious in a frightening sort of way.

5. Yes, but...
That's a song about an abusive, alcoholic father called "Independence Day".

4. Not to generalize, but if one is a country fan.....
I would guess that with a few exceptions (Dixie Chicks, Steve Earle, maybe a few of the older guys), you would have to overlook the political angle of the personal lives of the artists since it is a much more conservative climate. That's not a bad or good thing, just demographics. It would be like listening to rap and being offended by profanity. There are artists out there who don't employ that technique in their lyrics but they are clearly in the minority.

Besides, hasn't he always used one of her songs as the bumper music in his program? I would guess if she had a problem with him or his politics she could have stopped him from using her music.

7. I see your point, but -
you've got the cart before the horse. The political angle helps me determine whether or not to listen to country music. To expand your analogy: if I were offended by profanity, I wouldn't listen to rap in the first place.

She's kinda cute.

Henceforth, I will refer to her as "Fartina McLied". That'll teach her.

There is good and bad to be found in Nashville. I don't like to generalize.

19. Duly noted...
I was referring to the tendency of Nashville to market attractive but marginally talented "artists" performing songs they didn't write.

20. Well, personally I do think Martina McBride and..
quite a few others have talent. I think Shania is really fun, too. Just because I have different taste than you doesn't mean I'm wrong. :hi:

24. I agree
just like I agree with that sig picture, southpaw. :)

I remember getting into a big online argument with a Canadian guy, who I otherwise got along with well, about whether or not Shania Twain was an "important" artist. He thought her humongous record sales qualified her, I thought she was a genrebot - nice looking, but couldn't sing rock, couldn't sing country, so sang something hooky and palatable for the SUV-mom crowd that failed at either. Mutt Lange did for country through Shania what he did for metal through Def Leppard; borrowed the veneer, gutted it and turned into meaningless ear candy.

I'd take Sheryl Crow over either of them, and I don't even like Sheryl Crow that much.

26. Again, agree to disagree
There is some ingenuity in those Shania riffs, and Shania can sing. I think quite a bit of mainstream country is fine.

Plus, I love Sheryl. :-)

9. Anyone have a link with who will be at this concert
this is amusing - a concert with about 10 has-been musicians and a few country singers.

Whereas we had over 100 celebrities join us for the March for Choice in DC

This doesn't surprise me. I think she's very good, and will keep buying her albums unless a "Have You Forgotten?" type song comes up..

of having a song about a drunken, angry, abusive husband be the theme song for a show....

whose target audience is mainly drunken, angry, abusive husbands.
