I just cooked my dog a steak -
but I'M hungry and don't feel like preparing anything. The dog's done eating - but there's no one to cook for ME. What about ME, dammit?

4. LOL - I've been told by many
that they are going to move "in" - on the porch so I'll feed them and they can be one of my pets.

Funnier still - I am a vegetarian. The only meat that comes into this house is for critters. Chicken and turkey breast for the sugar gliders and the dog, and the dog gets steaks.

I have to "cook" for the sugar gliders every night too - they get a protein (boiled chicken or turkey, or a scrambled egg) 2-3 different fruits, 2-3 different veggies, and their staple food that I prepare in a blender and freeze about once every 2 weeks.

By the time I'm done feeding animals I'm hungry, but do NOT want to prepare anything.

5. I'm designated cook many nights as well
Cooking pasta/veggies for our parrots and once every couple weeks making a gross but unbelievably good and nutritious 'chicken gravy' for our 4 ferrets. I'm not a vegetarian but I'll tell you after working the meat grinder making that gravy there are times when I consider making the switch. Sadly I'd still be a slave to our business of merry ferrets :)

9. about the chicken gravy
In case you want to become a cook/slave to another one of your fuzzies here is a sight with info on the gravy I prepare.
http://www.trifl.org/gravy.shtml
I have found it to be a great help with our older ferrets (2 of which have insulinoma) and I think its a great supplement to dry food (we use totally ferret) which by its very nature is gonna create probs for pure carnivores like weasels (I use the term affectionately :)
Also dogs can be a great help in helping with cleanup as they love the stuff as well. Great to meet another Ferret loving DUer!!!

10. I remember reading about that -
when reading everything I could get my hands on re: ferrets. You're right - I should be feeding them some of that with their dry. Oy vey. I'd forgotten all about the chicken gravy until you mentioned it.

Mine get a mix of dry food - Totally Ferret, The Ferretstore Original, and The Ferretstore Natural.

I have 3 of the fuzzbutts - Jekyll, Heidi, and Spencer. Jekyll and Heidi were named by the man that gave them to me (Heidi was originally "hyde" I guess, but she turned out to be a girl), and Spencer was named by me, after the man that gave them all to me. He gave me Jekyll and Heidi first - then came across Spencer all alone and sad in the petstore - couldn't resist, bought him, and showed up at my job with Spencer in a box and said "take him and give him a good home".

I sure love those guys - they're the coolest!

Sorry about the insulinoma - I worry about what's to come with mine.

8. Well, it's mostly raw, even when I cook it.
I just sear it on both sides and warm it - it's definitely still rare.
