Don't dream it - Be it
Edited on Sat Apr-24-04 03:54 PM by Lizz612
I went to a Rocky Horror Picture Show for the first time last night. I felt like I was missing out because I had never seen it before, so when an announcement came round that there was going to be a show at midnight, I got there at 11:20. I didn't feel so bad 80% of the audience was "virgins." (We all had lipstick Vs on our foreheads)
It was really funny, people were yelling things out, but we couldn't throw things. (When do people throw toast?) So tell me more (more more more) about Rocky. How many times have you seen it? Have you ever dressed up?

Edit: I'm off to dinner, I'll check this when I get back.

1. Saw it LIVE! in 1974!
Twice, with Tim Curry at the Roxy in Los Angeles. It was an excellent live show - though of course no audience theatrics (those came later with the movie).

An amazing moment in the history of Glam Rock!

2. Saw it in college
And in the scene where everyone throws rice, someone in the audience actually threw COOKED rice *shaking head*

3. Saw it many times. I think the "toast" comes in at dinner.
When they're at the dinner table, one of the guests, or it may be Dr. Franknfurter, says they'd like to propose a toast, and people threw toast.

Also, during that scene, when the tablecloth is removed to reveal "eddie" as the main course, we would shout "meatloaf again!"

Man, I'd go again in a heartbeat if some theater here would show it.

13. No, the toast is during the wedding when Brad offers his toast
to Janet leading into their duet.

I have seen it hundreds of times since I first saw it on stage in London in the early 70's... what a piss.

Since then I have seen it in California, New York, Hawaii, Missouri, New Jersey, Mass, CT, Maine, DC and a few others I cant think of now.

4. 537 times from 1983-1994.
Stumbling onto that cult was one of the best things that ever happened to me! After 17 years of isolation and ostracism, I had finally found a place where people accepted, and even liked, me for who I was.

5. 537!!
You kept track? Wow. I've heard that story from some of my friends in MN. They fell in with the Rocky Horror crowd and just came right out of their shells and out of the closet soon after.

6. I was an old regular of the midnight showings
When they pulled it out of the theaters and released it to tape/dvd it was kind of sad. I got all sorts of invites from virgins who wanted someone that was a regular goer to come to their home show parties. It needs to be said that the movie really sucks. Its the experience and partici.........pation that makes it work. These home parties were just sad.

10. Yeah we had good people
The GBLT group put on the show. They had to convince a lot of people that we wouldn't get too rowdy.

7. I saw it about 10 times in the 80's
and a few times since on TV. Of course, I have the Rocky Horror Picture Show CD--great music, for me anyway.

9. Last week I nearly shouted out "That man has no neck!"
We were at Church and had a guest speaker (School of Americas protestor) and the guy had no neck. Great speaker. Very charismatic. And he had no neck. Do you have any idea how hard it is for an old Rocky Horror fan to not yell "That man has no neck"?

14. I've seen it at least 100 times
When I was in high school, I was in a RHPS stage show. The local theater that showed it had been a live theater converted to show movies, so it had a stage and a backstage area. The owner gave us bootleg video tapes and we used to practice all the scenes at big rehearsals. We were really into making authentic looking costumes. I bought this $100 corset from Frederick's of Hollywood, and I was a teenager with no money!

I played The Lips and Janet in the Floor Show, and in between I'd was a Translyvanian. Another girl played Janet for most of the movie, but the costume change for the last scene was too elaborate to do quickly. Besides, I liked wearing the corset and fishnets much better than running around in a bra and slip for an hour! For the Lips, I just punked out in a ripped up t-shirt, miniskirt, a lots of red lipstick.

People throw toast at the dinner party when Frank says : "A toast!" My Friend Lucy and I used to make up new lines and before the show we'd run up and down the line (there was always a huge line half way down the block for an hour before the movie started) selling trivia quizzes and audience participation bags, including all the necessary props.

The funny thing is when we saw Rocky Horror on Broadway a couple of years ago, they sold the same kind of goody bags!

15. I passed it up back in the day, along with ET, and more recently, Titanic.
I recently tried to watch Rocky Horror on TV. I couldn't stomach it. Seemed like so much crap to me.
