I've got quite a few, because I spent 8 years in the Marine Corps where my main goal in life was lots of beer and lots of women. I've got a wife and kids now, so some people who might know me now might wander how I got in to so much ....um...trouble.
Let's start with irresponsible but lucky:
When I was stationed in Quantico, I used to go to bars and clubs in DC - a lot. I think in 94 and 95, maybe I went to clubs/bars over 500 times.
----Warning-----
Kids, this behavior is wrong, don't do it....I was extremely lucky to have lived.
---End of warning---
One night me and my buddy went to a place called Sports Fans in Georgetown. I think this was in 97. Back then they served these mixed drinks (like a daquiri) in these big plastic fish bowls. I drank more than a few - and I had the ones filled with 151.
So, anyway, the bar closed and I had to drive back home, because it was a weekday and we had to be at work in the morning (you cant' call in sick in the Marines - especially not for drinking). Plus my buddy was totally drunk. Fortunately, I was sober by then, but I was very, very tired. I had not gotten much sleep the night before, and I had worked all day - not to metion the tiring effects of the 151.
I was driving south on I95, and this was when they were building the HOV lane in Fairfax County, so there was construction sites all over the place. Around Springfield (about half way home for those who don't know the area) I dozed off at the wheel. I went off into the gravel on the left side, and the vibration woke me up.
As soon as I looked up this huge concrete pylon was in my way - no more than 20 feet in front of me and I must have been going about 60. So I swerved over to the right and just missed it.
But I had swerved too hard and my car was out of control, and there was one of these concrete barriers on the other side, and I was going to hit it.
So I jerked the steering wheel to the left and barely missed it......
Then my car did a 720!!!! I litterally spun around twice!!
My car stopped, and I ended up in the left lane perfectly centered at a complete stop like nothing happened.
There were no cars around....nowhere....nobody saw me.
I sat there about two seconds and looked at my buddy, who slept through the whole thing. As I started to accelerate he asked, "What happened?"
I said, "Dude..... You don't wanna know."
I was wide awake after that. I told him what happened the next day, and he somewhat good humored about it, but he said, "You mean you almost killed me?"
Me and him went clubbing and drinking a few times after that, but he never fell asleep on the way home again...LOL!!
