Skip is his name.

Yesterday on the journey to the VA hospital in the Veteran's Van I first see Skip. Chuck, driver of the van asks "Anybody have to use the bath room?" Skip waves his hands wildly, singling I think "Me! Me!". So we pull into the Thruway rest stop. The driver parks in front of McDonalds/ McSnacks. Several of the vets get out light up smokes. Lew my brother in law is with us he catches a smoke too. I wait in the Van.

Later at the Hospital my appointment is over. I am sitting in my wheel chair. Lew and Skip are sitting with me. Skip asks me "You got any pain pills?" "No" I say. Skip asks Lew the same "You got any pain pills?" Skip is terrible restless. Hmmm I think Skip might have a habit.

I say 'Hey Lew you want to go get something to eat." Skip says "Am I invited?" "Sure." I say. And away we go. Skip is pushing me along in my chair dodging in and out of people traffic. We arrive safely at the cafeteria, much to my surprise. Lew and I get a bowl of Clam Chowder (New England) one buck a bowl. Skip disappears, soon comes back with a fish dinner. Golden fried fish, cabbage slaw, mashed potatoes and gravy and bread and butter. Five bucks.

I hand Skip ten bucks to pay for Lew's and my soup. I get three bucks back. I find it amusing and do not say anything. Skip seems starving his meal is consumed in huge bites. He pushes the tray away jumps up says "I gotta go get a smoke." And he is gone.

Lew and I still have our chowder to finish.

Poor Skip.
