That's right, y'all. The King of '70s Soul was born in Forrest City, Arkansas, on April 13, 1946. His long string of lush, soulful hits included "Back Up Train," "Tired of Being Alone," "Let's Stay Together," "Look What You Done For Me," "I'm Still In Love With You," "Guilty," "You Ought To Be With Me," "Call Me (Come Back Home)," "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)," "Livin' For You," "Let's Get Married," "Sha-La-La (Make Me Happy)," "L-O-V-E (Love)," "Oh Me, Oh My (Dreams In My Arms)," "Full of Fire," "Keep Me Cryin'," "Love and Happiness," and "Belle."
In 2003, Al Green came out with a CD of all-new material, CAN'T STOP, on the Blue Note label. The disc reunited Green with his old arranger/producer from Hi Records, Willie Mitchell, as well as with several of the original session singers and musicians who appeared on Green's '70s hits. The end result is the best damned collection of modern soul that my jaded ears have heard so far this century!
Happy birthday, Mr. Green! :toast::bounce::party::yourock:
