Lefty Frizzell wrote a song with the title because he liked the sound of it.
John

Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 01:24 PM by elfwitch
My hometown. Established by Franciscan Father Damien Massanet on June 13, 1691.

Think about that for a second... Boston was established in 1629.
San Antonio is one of the oldest cities in the United States.

17. Aiea
where Aloha Stadium is located.

Did you hear the one about the woman from Aiea who went on Wheel of Fortune?

She asked Pat if she could buy a consonant! :-)

Kailua, Lihue, Kahului, Waimea... you could probably say "Take out the garbage" in Hawaiian and it would sound sweet!

Edited on Tue Apr-13-04 07:19 PM by KadeCarrion
The founders of the town were originally from Pennsylvania. Her full name was Sedona Miller Schnebly, and there is about a 95% chance I'm related to her (seems like most of us PA Dutch are all related!)

It's a bit heavy on the golf-and-retiree set now, but it was once the home of numerous date-palm groves, purple sunsets and bighorn sheep (still a big reserve for same).

37. I love the Native American town names in the east...
There are so many, yet it's virtually all that remains of the culture. The sound of the names is hauntingly beautiful:

Wachapreague
Machipongo
Kiptopeke
Nanticoke
Chesapeake
Assateague
Chincoteague
Pocomoke
Ocracoke
Punxatawney
Romancoke
Chicamacomico
