5. Who's paying for this?
Seriously- I'd like to know how the finances are working there. They're obviously being purchased in bulk- nothing new there. But I'd like to know exactly who's doing these bulk purchases.

I wouldn't be surprised.

It could even be the book's publishers, I suppose. I'd love to know.

17. Franken's book talked about exactly that.
Garbage RW books massively subsidized by conservative think tanks just to spread their message.

7. Yeah, I've noticed a preponderance of RW books

in the political section the Edward R. Hamilton discount book catalog. Can't recall ever seeing any well-known leftist authors represented there.

Not that it's bad to have books in their catalog, they carry tons of good books, especially nonfiction, at low prices because they've been remaindered. (Prices are starting to go up, though, with on-demand printing reducing overruns.)

12. This is the way the book field works
You do the printing either way, so you guess at how many copies you need. If you underestimate, you have to do a second printing which is quite expensive. If you go over, the books end up in discount stores. But going over is cheaper in the long run.

15. Discount book stores
always have piles and piles of right-wing screeds by inarticulate morons like Coulter & O'Rielly - and nothing from Chomsky, or Hillary, or Joe Conson, or Al Franken, or Michael Moore, or anyone else that REAL PEOPLE ACTUALLY BUY AND READ.

register.com reveals that one Tom Kubala of Eagle Publishing Company, at One Massachusetts Ave, Washington, DC is the Administrative Contact for this site. And a Yahoo search turns up this at http://www.regnery.com/eagle/eagle.html:

"REGNERY PUBLISHING is a subsidiary of Eagle Publishing, considered by many America's leading conservative publishing company, whose headquarters are located in Washington, D.C..

Eagle periodicals, books, and book clubs give readers up-to-the-minute news as well as in-depth analysis and commentary on the events that shape our world. Our full range of products and services provide independent thinkers with perspective and solutions favoring the traditional American values of free enterprise, limited government, and individual liberty.

With its growing team of publishing professionals, Eagle has fast become one of America’s leaders in the public-policy publishing arena. Shaping the direction of Eagle’s growth and dedication to conservative, pro-American ideals are Chairman Thomas L. Phillips and President Jeffrey J. Carneal. They—together with a seasoned editorial team, top-notch marketers, and dedicated support staff—have positioned Eagle for solid growth well into the 21st century."

And who are these guys? Check out bio info at: http://www.regnery.com/eagle/eagle_management.html

21. The Conservative Book Club predates the Internet
They claim to have been around for 35 years--that's 1968. I believe it; we had a few people in Berlin who got their books from them because they were cheaper than the Stars and Stripes bookstore and had a better selection of this kind of book.

Or any kind of book, for that matter; the selection at the Stars and Lies Bookstore was not great if you didn't want children's books, of which they had a vast selection.
